Job summary

University of New Mexico is offering a Magazine Assistant off-campus work-study position in Albuquerque. You will gain exposure to design, editing, social media, typesetting, and event planning for Horizon Review, a literature and fine-arts magazine produced with Fusion Theatre Company.

Job Overview

Magazine Assistant – Off‑Campus Work‑Study. Location: 708 1st St NW Albuquerque, NM 87102. The role supports the production of Horizon Review, a literature and fine‑arts magazine for Fusion Theatre Company, providing experience in design, editing, social media, typesetting, and event planning.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare for the magazine launch in Spring 2027.
  • Work individually (remote) on delegated tasks such as social media marketing, submission review, editing, design, and more.
  • Create and submit progress reports.
  • Design social media materials or magazine assets.
  • Attend workshops and required in‑person hours for team meetings and coworking sessions.
  • Assist with various tasks related to the magazine as needed.
Qualifications
  • Enrolled in a degree‑seeking program at UNM, at least half‑time (6 hours) each semester; meet satisfactory academic progress.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Independent time‑management skills.
  • Strong copywriting and proofreading skills.
  • Willingness to work individually and as part of a group.
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Interest in learning about the roles and tasks related to the production of the magazine.
  • Tech savvy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in marketing, event planning, editing, or publishing.
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Suite and Adobe InDesign.
  • Strong knowledge of writing conventions and their effectiveness.
Eligibility

Part‑time work‑study position (5–10 hours per week). Must have a work‑study award.
