Job summary

Warsaw Community Schools is seeking a specialized paraprofessional to assist the classroom teacher in creating a safe learning environment and meeting individual student needs.

Hours: 29.5 hours per week (Mon 10:20-4:00, Tue-Fri 9:30-4:00) for a 36-week school year, non-exempt. Responsibilities include implementing IEPs, assisting with activities, health support, and supervision during drills and field trips.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 60 college credits or an Associate’s degree or the ability to pass the ParaPro Assessment is required.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention training and Hepatitis B vaccine are required (paid by school).

Responsibilities

  • Implements IEP and Behavior Plan under the supervision of the teacher.
  • Assists the teacher with learning activities in group and 1-on-1 settings.
  • Assists students with health and self-help needs, including feeding, toileting, positioning, and dressing.
  • Assists students in developing social and emotional skills.
  • Supervises students during drills, assemblies, recess, field trips and general education.
  • Participates in training as determined by the supervising teacher and principal.
  • Supervises instructional activities at the direction of the teacher, including Math, English, and handwriting.
  • Communicates progress to the supervising teacher and records student progress data.
  • Assists with bus duty in mornings and afternoons.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintains confidentiality per policy.

Job description

Reports to: Supervising Teacher

General Summary: A specialized paraprofessional assists the classroom teacher in providing a safe learning environment where children’s individual needs are met.

Hours: Monday (10:20-4:00), Tuesday to Friday (9:30-4:00) to total 29.5 hours per week

Essential Functions:

  • Implements IEP and Behavior Plan under the supervision of the teacher.
  • Assists the teacher with the learning activities of students in both group and 1-on-1 settings.
  • Assists students with health and self-help needs, including but not limited to, feeding, toileting, positioning, and dressing. This may require operating specialized equipment.
  • Assists students in developing social and emotional skills.
  • Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, recess, field trips, specials, and general education.
  • Participates in general and job specific training as determined by the supervising teacher and principal.
  • Supervises students in instructional activities at the direction of the teacher, including Math, English, fine motor skills, and handwriting.
  • Communicates with the supervising teacher on student progress and/or special needs of students.
  • Assists teacher with recording student progress data.
  • Assists with bus duty in the mornings and afternoons, helping load and unload students.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
  • Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintains confidentiality as defined within the policy and procedure manual.

Qualifications:

  • Education – High School Diploma (minimum), 60 college credits/Associate’s Degree/ability to pass the ParaPro Assessment
  • Experience – Evidence of experience working with students
  • Required: Hepatitis B Vaccine (paid for by school) and Crisis Prevention Intervention training (paid for by school)

Length of Position: 36 weeks(for the school year)
