Job summary

Warsaw Community Schools Jefferson Elementary in Winona Lake, Indiana is seeking a Specialized Paraprofessional to support the classroom teacher and meet students’ individual needs.

Responsibilities include implementing IEPs, assisting with group and 1-on-1 activities, supporting health and self-care tasks, and supervising students during daily activities and trips. Training in Crisis Prevention Intervention is required.

Qualifications

• Education – High School Diploma (minimum).
• 60 college credits / Associate’s Degree / ability to pass the ParaPro Assessment.
• Experience – Evidence of experience working with students.
• Hepatitis B Vaccine (paid for by school) and Crisis Prevention Intervention training (paid for by school)

• Supervises instructional activities under direction of teacher including Math, English, handwriting.
• Communicates student progress and needs to supervising teacher.
• Assists with recording student progress data and bus duty in mornings/afternoons.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
• Maintains confidentiality per policy.
• Assesses need for Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plan with data collection systems.

Reports to: Supervising Teacher

General Summary: A specialized paraprofessional assists the classroom teacher in providing a safe learning environment where children’s individual needs are met.

Essential Functions:

• Implements IEP and Behavior Plan under the supervision of the teacher.
• Assists the teacher with the learning activities of students in both group and 1-on-1 settings.
• Assists students with health and self-help needs, including but not limited to, feeding, toileting, positioning, and dressing. This may require operating specialized equipment.
• Assists students in developing social and emotional skills.
• Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, recess, field trips, specials, and general education.
• Participates in general and job specific training as determined by the supervising teacher and principal.
• Supervises students in instructional activities at the direction of the teacher, including Math, English, fine motor skills, and handwriting.
• Communicates with the supervising teacher on student progress and/or special needs of students.
• Assists teacher with recording student progress data.
• Assists with bus duty in the mornings and afternoons, helping load and unload students.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
• Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Maintains confidentiality as defined within the policy and procedure manuals.
• Assess the need for Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plan including the development of effective data collection systems.
