Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking candidates for the Machinist Trainee program who will complete a three‑week unpaid training program to begin a rewarding career in the Outside Machinist trade. The program is conducted through partnerships with Virginia institutions and runs 7:00am–3:30pm, Monday through Friday, with Class sizes of 8–10 students.

Qualifications

• Must pass a 3-week unpaid training program (120 hours), 7:00am – 3:30pm (Mon-Fri).
• Must be willing to undergo a background investigation and drug screen.
• Must be able to pass a physical agility test.
• Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb on a daily basis.
• Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds.
• Must be able to perform overhead work.
• Must be willing to work any shift.
