Responsibilities

• Positions work pieces for processing.
• Operates a combination of different machines to process work by cutting, burning, sawing, blasting, shearing, punching, grinding, bending, or pressing.
• Uses gauges, calipers, squares, or rulers for measurement.
• Determines processing specifications by reviewing blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions.
• Installs and aligns fixtures in machine bed using gauges, templates, feelers, shims, or hand tools.
• Adjusts controls to set speed, depth and feed rates; diagnoses problems and makes adjustments.
• Performs quality control inspections on finished product; performs In Process Quality Inspections where required.
• Coordinates and executes material handling of inventories including overhead crane operation.
• Performs basic preventative maintenance, such as lubrication and part changes.
• May train less experienced workers and act as lead in absence of group leader.
• Marks identification on material/work pieces before and after processing; stores material for further processing/shipping.
• Restocks material.
• Completes work order paperwork/documentation.

Metals USA has an opening for a Machinist Trainee in the Tulsa, OK facility. The Machinist Trainee performs advanced production activities requiring a demonstrated high level of skill and proficiency in material handling, production processes and multiple machine operation acquired through extended experience and training.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Positions work pieces for processing
• Operates a combination of different machines to process work by cutting, burning, sawing, blasting, shearing, punching, grinding, bending, or pressing
• Uses gauges, calipers, squares, or rulers for measurement
• Determines processing specifications such as materials, cutting tools, location of cutting lines, dimensions, tolerances, and operational sequences by reviewing blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications
• Installs and aligns specified punches, cutting blades or other fixtures in machine bed using gauges, templates, feelers, shims, or hand tools
• Adjusts controls to set cutting speed, depth and feed rates; and diagnoses problems and makes necessary adjustments
• Performs quality control inspections on finished product; for ISO-certified locations, performs In Process Quality Inspections
• Coordinates and executes material handling of all inventories to be processed including operation of overhead crane
• Performs limited preventative maintenance, such as lubrication, cleaning and changing of parts
• May train less experienced workers and perform as lead in absence of group leader
• May mark identification on material/work pieces before processing
• May mark material after processing; store material for additional processing and/or shipping
• Restocks material
• Completes work order paperwork/documentation

• Demonstrated manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness, and multi-limb coordination

Physical Demands:

Occupation requires physical activity more than 66% of the time ( > 5.5 hours per day)

• Stand, walk, sit, handling/fingering, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend
• Lift, carry, push and/or pull 51 -- 100 lbs. with assistance

Other Physical Requirements:

• Must wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Steel-toed boots or metatarsal boots
