Job summary

ANDRITZ is seeking a Machinist Trainee to learn basic machining, fabrication, and assembly in our warehouse and shop environment. You will read blueprints and specifications, set up machines, operate tools, and help across departments while maintaining safety and organization.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 0-1 years of experience assisting in a shop or similar environment.
  • Strong desire to learn machining and other manufacturing skills in fabrication and assembly.
  • Adequate mathematical ability to calculate material needs.
  • Ability to obtain forklift certification.

Responsibilities

  • Entry level machining tasks.
  • Read blueprints, sketches, drawings, and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances.
  • Set up holding fixtures, cutting tools, and materials on machines.
  • Observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust controls as required.
  • Verify conformance of finished work to specifications.
  • Use hand tools to complete set-ups and assemble parts.
  • Assist in all departments as needed.
  • Demonstrate safe working practices and promote a positive work environment.

Brief Description
A Machinist Trainee assists the team by learning the basics of machining, fabrication, and assembly, as
well as maintaining a clean, well-organized work area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Entry level machining
  • Learn how to read blueprints, sketches, drawings, and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece and setup requirements
  • Learn how to select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jib borers, grinders, and shapers
  • Learn how to start and observe machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or control media as required
  • Learn how to set controls to regulate machining factors such as speeds, feeds, coolant flow, and depth to overcome machining variances
  • Learn how to verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications
  • Use hand tools to complete set-ups
  • Use a variety of battery and pneumatic hand tools including grinders, welder, drill, & hammer drill
  • Prep parts to be fabricated including washing parts
  • Drill holes and deburr parts
  • Use welder to fabricate fittings
  • Painting
  • Shop clean up
  • Help in every department as needed
  • Demonstrate safe working practices and standards

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications (Required)

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 0-1 years of experience assisting in a shop
  • Strong desire to learn machining and other manufacturing skills in fabrication and assembly
  • Adequate mathematical ability to calculate material needs
  • Ability to obtain forklift certification
  • Basic construction knowledge
  • Ability to use material handling equipment such as hand truck, pallet jack, or jib crane
  • Good communication and organizational skills with a willingness to work with others; ability to interact professionally and positively with all levels of personnel in the company
  • Demonstrate qualities that support a safe working environment
  • Majority of work is performed in a warehouse and manufacturing shop environment; exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, forklifts, and electricity in the manufacturing areas, noise level is usually moderate to high
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; must have ability to use close vision, peripheral vision, and adjust focus; required to stand for long periods of time, bend, stoop, crouch, walk, use hands and arms to reach for objects, carry, climb, balance, speak, and hear
