Job summary

Blue Canyon Technologies in Lafayette, CO is seeking a senior Machinist Sr. Technician to lead high-precision CNC machining and assembly for spaceflight components. This full-time role requires hands-on expertise and a strong commitment to quality.

You will program, operate, and optimize multi-axis machines, read blueprints, apply GD&T, mentor junior technicians, and collaborate with engineering to ensure manufacturability and reliability of critical parts.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or equivalent required.
  • 7+ years related experience.
  • Experience in CNC machining and mechanical assembly.
  • Interpretation of blueprints/technical specifications and GD&T.
  • Experience using metrology tools (CMM, micrometers, calipers, multimeters).
  • Experience leading and mentoring junior technicians.
  • CAM software experience (Mastercam, Fusion 360 CAM).

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and execute CNC machining programs for complex aerospace components (G-code and CAM).
  • Operate advanced CNC equipment (mills, lathes, multi-axis) with precision and efficiency (setup, tool selection, in-process verification).
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions to maintain quality.
  • Collaborate with engineering using DFM to translate designs into manufacturable components.
  • Perform and maintain records for equipment preventive maintenance (PM).
  • Secondary allocation: read and assemble electrical/mechanical components per blueprints and specs; ensure precise quality inspections.

Position Purpose: The Machinist Sr. Technician (Machining & Assembly) is a dual competency role with a high level of autonomy, uniquely combining high-level CNC programming/operation with assembly responsibilities of electrical/mechanical components for space flight use.

Pay Range: $34.00 - $48.00/hour

On-site position at our Lafayette, CO location (work locations are subject to change based on business need).

Job Responsibilities:
Machining Excellence (Primary Differentiator)
  • Develop, optimize, and execute CNC machining programs for complex aerospace components (G-code and CAM).
  • Operate advanced CNC equipment (mills, lathes, multi-axis machines) with precision and efficiency (equipment setup, tool selection, and in-process verification).
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions to maintain quality standards.
  • Use Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and industry best practices to collaborate with engineering for design and concept translation into manufacturable components.
  • Perform and maintain records for equipment preventive maintenance (PM) (routine inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance).
Mechanical &/or Electrical Assembly (Secondary Allocation)
  • Secondary allocation based on background and applicable skills.
  • Read, understand, and execute work instructions, blueprints, and technical specifications to build advanced and precise electrical/mechanical assemblies.
  • Execute precision assembly operations requiring meticulous attention to detail.
  • Integrate machined components, electronics, and harnessing into larger assemblies and systems.
  • Perform quality inspections using precision metrology tools and techniques.
  • May program and operate automated conformal coating/PVA machines.
Required Qualifications/Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 7+ years related experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in CNC machining and mechanical assembly.
  • Interpretation of blueprints/technical specification and applied knowledge of GD&T (ANSI/ASME Y14.5).
  • Experience using metrology tools (CMM, Micrometers, Calipers, Multi-meters, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring junior technicians.
  • Experience using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and/or Autodesk Fusion 360 for design interpretation.
  • CAM software experience (Mastercam, Fusion 360 CAM, or similar).
  • Excellent manual dexterity, ability to handle small parts
  • Possess strong problem solving and communication abilities.
  • High standard of workmanship is a must.
  • Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education.
Working Conditions:

This job operates in a professional office environment, but in a manufacturing company. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. BCT anticipates the application window closing approximately 40 days from the date the notice was posted.
