Job summary

FMI in Biddeford, ME is seeking a Machinist with strong manual machining experience to support carbon/carbon products and related tooling at our Morin Street facility. You will work from blueprints, set up and operate vertical mills and lathes, and ensure precise tolerances.

The role emphasizes GD&T proficiency, accuracy, and safe, efficient operation of equipment. This position offers competitive hourly pay and a benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401k, and tuition

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and/or 2 year technical degree; preferred

Responsibilities

• Repairs and fabricates metal parts by operating mechanical equipment
• Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units
• Uses blueprints and design sketches to ensure proper dimensions and tolerances
• Measures material and selects appropriate machine for the process
• Set up and operate vertical mill, horizontal lathe, manual surface grinders, manual band saws
• Review and interpret engineering drawings and work orders
• Determine tooling requirements and machining processes to be applied
• Inspect in-process and completed work product to technical requirements
• Maintain tooling and machine tool equipment in clean operating condition
• Produce consistent machining of carbon/carbon product
• May handle hazardous waste per procedures
• Align and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials
• Monitor feed and speed of machines
• Measure completed units using precision instruments
• Use optical comparators with multifunctional displays
• Support quality and manufacturing reporting
• Participate in Lean activities and follow safety procedures
