Job summary

MicroPort Orthopedics, Inc. is seeking a Machinist to operate CNC/milling and turning equipment to manufacture medical devices. You will work on the third shift, ensuring quality, maintaining records, and supporting process improvements with Engineering.

Strong measuring skills and blueprint reading are essential. Role includes a 6% shift premium for 3rd shift, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for advancement in a world-class manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required with technical training preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints and measure with calipers/micrometers.
  • Competency operating CNC and manual machines for medical devices.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC/Manual machines such as mills and lathes to manufacture devices.
  • Meet production quotas while ensuring quality and QA requirements.
  • Complete device history records with accuracy and maintain data in systems.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and keep work area organized.
  • Train junior machinists and assist process improvements with Eng. staff.

This is a 3rd shift position: 11:00pm-7:30am (Sunday evening-Friday morning)

Shift Premium: 6% for 3rd shift

Overall Summary

As a Machinist, you will work with tools, fixtures, and machines to manufacture medical devices from setup to operation. A working knowledge of manual machines (i.e., mills, lathes, grinders) and the ability to operate computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines is utilized to produce large volumes of medical devices made from metals, plastics or other materials.

Responsibilities

Machinist I:

  1. Operate multiple CNC/Manual machines such as mills and lathes.
  2. Manufacture medical devices that conform to specifications and all Quality Assurance requirements such as calipers, micrometers, coordinate measuring machines, optical comparators, air gages, surface roundness and finish analyzers.
  3. Attain production quotas such as daily goals, team goals, and labor standards.
  4. Complete device history records accurately with minimal errors.
  5. Enter required production data into MicroPort business systems.
  6. Perform routine preventive maintenance including area cleaning.

Machinist II:

  1. Set-up and operate multiple CNC/Manual machines such as mills, lathes, and multi-axis CNC's.
  2. Perform auxiliary production operations such as, but not limited to inspection, metal finishing, robot operation, issuing / receiving raw materials and components.
  3. Work with Engineering staff to develop, prove out, and improve production processes.
  4. Communicate with peers, management, and other departments to ensure optimal efficiency is achieved.
  5. Train other machinists in core job duties.

Senior Machinist: (only applies to internal candidates)

  1. Lead 6S projects and implement improvements to the process.
  2. Be proficient in the set up and operation of at least 3 different types of machines in 3 different work centers.
  3. Participate in team events, as well as individually contribute, to improve production efficiencies.
  4. Participate in the interview process for prospective machinists.
  5. Maintain a strong machining knowledge base to ensure optimal performance in any and all areas that present business needs.

We might be a great match if you are able to understand units of measure in both metric and English; must be able to convert between the two. A basic understanding of manufacturing machines, metal deburring, and plastic trimming is required. The ability to use measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers and other specialty tools used in machining processes is required.

Minimal requirements for entry into the role are as follows:

  • Some mechanical aptitude.

  • Basic metrology / measuring skills.
  • Ability to read and write in English.

Your Education:

Required: High School Diploma or GED

Preferred: Technical School Training

Your Experience:

Machinist I: 2 years or CNC Technical School Completion.

Machinist II: 4 years or 2 years & CNC Technical School Completion.

Senior Machinist (only applies to internal candidates): 5 years or 3 years & CNC Technical School Completion.
