Job summary

SMS group Inc. in Gary, IN is seeking a Machinist Operations Supervisor for the second shift to direct and coordinate production activities across departments, ensuring timely delivery and quality.

The role requires strong leadership, hands-on experience with CNC and manual metalworking machinery, and the ability to interpret drawings and specs. A mechanical engineering background is a plus, with 5+ years in industrial manufacturing or repair.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering a plus but not required.
• 5+ years of experience in Industrial Manufacturing/Repair.
• Self-motivation to identify, analyze and independently work to complete tasks.
• Demonstrated proficiency in supporting corporate interest from remote site locations and ability to communicate and exercise very positive people skills.
• Converting metric and standard measurements.
• Ability to set up and operate both CNC and manual machinery for use in metal working applications.
• Interpret assembly and blueprint drawings.
• Knowledge of welding.

Responsibilities

• Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.
• Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.
• Ensure production and quality of products meets specifications.
• Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
• Promotes safety, ensures safety policies are being followed and reporting incidents immediately to the Safety Manager and into the safety portal
• Develop or revise standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.
