Pro-Type Industries is looking for a self-motivated, detail-oriented Machinist Lathe Operator/Set up Lead to join our Sterling, VA metal fabrication team. Job Duties Include

• Set up and operate CNC and manual lathes to perform turning operations on a variety of metals and materials.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions to determine machining operations required.
• Select proper tooling, speeds, and feeds for each job; make offset and program adjustments as needed.
• Measure and inspect finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision instruments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues related to tool wear, materials, or dimensional accuracy.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and ensure a clean, organized work area.
• Document work performed, including job travelers and inspection reports.
• Follow safety protocols and adhere to company and industry quality standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO, AS9100 if applicable).
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, and other departments to resolve technical issues and improve processes.
  
  

Job Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training in machining is preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of experience operating and setting up CNC lathes in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficient in blueprint reading and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Strong knowledge of cutting tools, speeds/feeds, and machining best practices.
• Ability to use a wide range of precision measuring tools.
• Experience with G-code programming and editing (preferred).
