Job summary

Cooper Machinery Services in Louisiana is seeking a skilled Machinist to fabricate precision parts, read blueprints, and set up and operate manual machines. This role supports our turbocharger service and heavy equipment operations.

You will work overtime as needed, handle multiple machine types, and contribute to quality and safety in a fast-growing aftermarket business.

Qualifications

• Must have 5-8 years of hands-on manual machining experience.
• Must be proficient with precision measuring tools and inspection.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specs, and blueprints.
• Able to lift at least 40 lbs and perform physical work.

Responsibilities

• Operate manual machine tools (lathes, mills, drills) to fabricate parts.
• Repair and restore components for turbocharger service.
• Interpret blueprints, determine dimensions and tolerances.
• Conduct dimensional layout and documentation to confirm conformity.
• Set up and operate machines, adjust offsets.
• Deburr and finish surfaces per specs.
• Maintain safe, clean work area and monitor feeds/speeds.
• Review job cards for product details and quantities.

What You Will Do

• Operate manual machine tools — lathes, mills, and drills — to fabricate precision parts to exact specifications.
• Perform repair and restoration of components to support the turbocharger service business.
• Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, and surface finish requirements.
• Conduct dimensional layout on all machined parts and complete routing documentation to confirm conformity.
• Set up and independently operate assigned machines, including offset adjustments (wear, geometry, cutter compensation).
• Deburr, stamp, and apply multiple surface finishes per specifications; align and secure fixtures, tooling, and accessories.
• Monitor machine feed and speed throughout the machining process and maintain a safe, clean work area.
• Read job cards to determine product details, specifications, machining time, and quantities; handle multiple machine types as required.

Who You Are

• High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution; Vo-Tech Certificate required.
• 5-8 years of hands‑on manual machining experience, preferably in oil & gas, power, heavy equipment, or automation.
• Advanced proficiency with precision measuring tools: Vernier and dial calipers, ID mics, depth mics, ball mics, and more.
• Certified to operate a forklift, pallet jack, and crane; able to lift at least 40 lbs and perform sustained physical work.
• Familiar with oilfield assemblies, parts, and advanced trade mathematics; comfortable reading complex drawings and specs.
• Strong communicator with effective verbal and written skills; reliable team contributor with a safety-first mindset.
• Willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as the business requires.

Preferred

• Experience in turbocharger service or rotating equipment repair environments.
• Background working with multiple machine types simultaneously in a high‑mix, low‑volume production setting.
• Familiarity with quality control documentation and ISO/AS9100 work environments.
