Job summary

Blue Origin LLC, based on Florida's Space Coast, seeks an experienced Machinist to set up and operate CNC machines for components across Lunar & New Glenn programs. You will read prints, apply GD&T, and measure parts to tolerances using a range of equipment. This role supports multiple spaceflight vehicles with dedication to safety and quality.

Relocation is provided. Shifts available: C (Fri-Sun 5am–5:30pm) and D (Fri-Sun 5pm–5:30am).

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of CNC mill/lathe experience.
  • 2+ years of multi-axis CNC machine experience.
  • 2+ years of programming with UG or Mastercam.
  • High school diploma or GED plus trade school degree or 10 years experience.
  • GD&T knowledge and full understanding.
  • Ability to read and understand job instructions verbally and written.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC machines to produce parts per print.
  • Read blueprints and apply GD&T requirements.
  • Use gages and measuring instruments to meet tolerances.
  • Operate CNC lathe, mills, 5 axis machines and a variety of tools.
  • Fabricate parts from metal, plastics, and composites.
  • Safely select, align, secure and remove fixtures and tools.
  • Adjust speeds/feeds for optimal cutting conditions.
  • Load CNC programs and run first part safely.

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. Blue Origin is developing the next generation launch and space vehicle manufacturing facility on Florida’s Space Coast at our Orbital Launch Site Manufacturing Complex.

We are in search of a Machinist that can perform under minimal supervision the following: set up and operate CNC controlled machines, produce small and large batches of parts from metal, plastics, and composites to print. This position specifically will be focused on machining components for multiple spaceflight vehicles across Blue Origin Lunar & New Glenn groups.

Responsibilities
  • Performs all tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Read and understand blueprints. Fully understands GD&T.
  • Use of gages and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements.
  • Use of precision tool, machinery and equipment such as CNC lathe, mills, 5 axis, and a variety of cutting tools and equipment.
  • Fabricates and shapes parts such as tools and machine parts out of metal, plastics, and composites.
  • Properly and safely selects, aligns, secures and removes holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials onto machines.
  • Recognizes, deploys and properly uses inserts, fixtures and tooling.
  • Performs daily and regular cleaning including light maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment.
  • Evaluate experimental procedures and recommends change or modifications for efficiency and adaptability to setup CNC production.
  • Track parts and labor into an MRP system.
  • Read and understand CNC code.
  • Make minor adjustments to CNC programs.
  • Load CNC programs and safely run through first part.
  • Adjust speeds and feeds to obtain optimal cutting conditions.
  • Complies with all quality and company policies, specifications, regulations and instructions.
Qualifications
  • Required 7+ of related CNC mill and/or lathe experience.
  • 2+ years of experience with multi-axis CNC machines.
  • 2+ years of programming with software like UG, and/or Master Cam.
  • Full understanding of manual machines and how to operate them.
  • High school diploma or GED required along with trade school degree or 10 years of experience.
  • GD&T knowledge and full understanding.
  • Effectively communicate and understands job instructions both verbally and written.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations in the concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical of diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. when required, use of an overhead crane, forklift, stand for long periods of time, vision requirements will include close, distance, color, depth perception, and focus.
  • Computer skills.
  • Applicant must be a United States citizen or permanent resident alien

  • Experience machining nickel-based stainless-steel alloys, copper, titanium
  • Basic of tooling and fixture design
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts around flight critical hardware
