Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking an expert CNC Machinist to develop hardware in parallel with Engineering. You will program, set up, and machine 3–5 axis parts, inspecting and iterating processes to deliver parts that meet engineering specs.

This role requires extensive experience with multi-axis CNC equipment, GD&T, and a collaborative approach to design-for-manufacturing feedback. First shift responsibilities and safety culture are emphasized.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience with 3,4 and 5 axis CNC machining.
  • 10+ years of experience with manual mill and lathe.
  • 7+ years of experience with NX; strong understanding of GD&T and inspection techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Develop hardware in parallel with Engineering.
  • Machine and inspect parts from cradle to grave; select tooling and set up; communicate with design teams throughout lifecycle.

Job description

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. Responsibilities:
  • Develop hardware in parallel and in collaboration with Engineering.
  • Machine product from cradle to grave: evaluate, select work-holding & tooling, program, setup, machine and inspect, while communicating with design teams throughout the entire life cycle.
  • Programming, set up and machining of 3, 4 and 5 axis mills, multi axis lathes, and development of critical machining processes.
  • Operation of other equipment as required, both NC controlled and manual.
  • Working with engineering to document and standardize production processes.
  • Partner with leadership and engineering to prioritize work based on production schedule and organizational goals.
  • Ensure product quality and conformance to engineering specifications.
  • Perform daily maintenance and regular cleaning of machinery and equipment.
  • Perform all tasks in safe and responsible manner.

Schedule: First shift (Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm)

Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience with 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC machining.
  • 10+ years of experience with manual mill and lathe.
  • 7+ years of experience with NX Full understanding of GD&T and the tools to execute the inspection of.
  • Thrive in a constantly evolving environment.
  • Ability to take on challenges with incomplete information and pivot to drive progress.
  • Work well in a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience machining one or more of the following materials: nickel-based stainless-steel alloys (Inconel, Monel, etc.), Copper, Aluminum and/or Titanium.
  • Extensive experience with one or more of the following CNC machines: Mazak, Hass, DMG Mori, Mori Seiki, and/or Okuma.
  • Working knowledge of Fanuc, Siemens, Mazatrol or other CNC controls.
  • Excellent blueprint reading skills including GD&T per current ASME Y14.5M standard.
  • Familiar with use of personal computers.
  • Ability to provide Design for Manufacturing feedback.
Must be physically able to:

Lift and carry 50 lbs.

Desired:
  • Experience machining vehicle-sized tooling
  • Experience in integrating metrology in-line with machining
  • Experience machining nickel-based stainless-steel alloys, copper, titanium.
  • Tooling and fixture design.
  • Outside processing knowledge, including heat treat, plating, coating, EDM, grinding, etc.
  • CMM programming/operation experience.
  • Conversational programming on the machine.
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts.
