The Detail/Tool Room Machinist position involves setting up and operating milling machines, lathes, grinders, and saws to create flat or curved surfaces on metal workpieces such as machine, tool, or die parts. The role requires analyzing specifications and selecting appropriate tooling based on machining procedures. Candidates should have manual and CNC machine knowledge and demonstrate exceptional attention to detail.

Responsibilities

1. Understand blueprints and work piece layout. Determine operation sequences and finished dimensions.
2. Secure workpieces on machine tables using clamps, bolts, or fixtures.
3. Select feed rate, cutting speed, depth of cut, and milling cutter, applying knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics.
4. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing, work well in a team, and be highly self-motivated.
5. Embrace challenges and think creatively (“outside the box”).
6. Maintain a strong work ethic.

Requirements

1. 2-4 years of trade school, vocational training, work experience, or apprenticeship.
2. Own tools of the trade.
3. High aptitude with the ability to learn and apply new knowledge.
4. U.S. Person status.
5. Ability to prioritize tasks.
6. Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime.
7. Ability to analyze complex machining requirements and adapt accordingly.
