Overview
Installs, modifies, moves, troubleshoots, repairs, and dismantles machinery and equipment according to requisition documentation, layout plans, blueprints, or other drawings. Prepares installation sites by constructing foundations and aligns and fastens machinery to the foundation using hoists, dollies, rollers, trucks, tools, squares, rules, and micrometers. Performs operational tests on newly installed, modified, repaired, and moved machinery and equipment to ensure they meet technical specifications. Fabricates metal parts for prototype equipment based on drawings. Programs PLCs (programmable logic controllers).
Major Position Responsibilities
- Assists with the installation, operation, testing, and adjustment of various types of conventional or automatic machines used to produce precision parts and instruments.
- Fabricates and modifies parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
- Machines parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
- Measures, examines, and tests completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Experience operating CNC Mills and/or Lathes.
- Basic understanding of G&M Codes.
- Knowledge of insert wear.

- Ability to use machining measurement equipment (calipers, depth mics, etc.).
