Job description

Overview

Installs, modifies, moves, troubleshoots, repairs, and dismantles machinery and equipment according to requisition documentation, layout plans, blueprints, or other drawings. Prepares installation site by constructing foundations and aligns and fastens machinery to the foundation using hoists, dollies, rollers, trucks, tools, squares, rules, and micrometers. Performs operational tests on newly installed, modified, repaired, and moved machinery and equipment to ensure that it meets technical specifications. Fabricates metal parts for prototype equipment based on drawings. Programs PLCs (programmable logic controllers).

Major Position Responsibilities

• Assists with the installation, operation, testing, and adjustment of various types of conventional or automatic machines used to produce precision parts and instruments.
• Fabricates and modifies parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
• Machines parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
• Measures, examines, and tests completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.

Basic Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree/Technical Training
  • 2-4 Years Experience

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Experience operating CNC Mills and/or Lathes.
  • Basic understanding of G&M Codes.
  • Knowledge of insert wear.
  • Ability to change your own tooling (inserts).
  • Ability to use machining measurement equipment (i.e., calipers, depth mics, etc.).
  • Mathematical skills.
  • Technical expertise.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Physical stamina.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Leadership skills.
