Job summary

Primetals Technologies USA in Cortland, OH is seeking a Machinist II to operate lathes, mills and related equipment to fabricate and repair metal parts.

You will read drawings, set up tools, inspect work, and perform daily machine maintenance, with potential to mentor junior machinists.

Requirements include a high school diploma and 2–3 years of related experience; crane/forklift certs and a valid driver’s license are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School or Equivalent
• 2-3 years of related machinist experience
• Crane/Forklift Certification – in-house training provided
• Valid Driver’s license
• Proper use of Safety Equipment – Boots, hard hat, fall protection, glasses, ear plugs
• Proper use of tools: Inside and Outside Micrometers, Depth Micrometer, Calipers, Bore Gages, Other General Hand Tools

Responsibilities

• Forms and shapes material
• Operates lathes, drill presses, mills, routers, grinding machines, duplicating and profile machines
• Works from drawings and written instructions to create replacement and new parts in making complex repairs to metal parts as well as for experimental apparatus or prototype equipment
• Work is diversified and machining is performed to ordinary tolerances
• Requires knowledge of various metals and of measurements used in machining processes
• Determines dimensions and tolerances of piece to be machined, sequence of operations and machines required by studying specifications
• Computes cutting speeds, feed rates and dimensions
• Inspects machined work pieces to verify conformance
• Prepares and pre-sets all tools needed for machining operations
• May provide technical leadership and assist in training less experienced machinists
• Daily maintenance check of machine
• Other work may be assigned at Management’s discretion
