Job summary

General Plastics & Composites LP in Houston, TX is seeking a mid-level Machinist 2 to set up, operate, and maintain a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. This role requires a strong understanding of machine techniques, blueprint reading, and quality control procedures.

The Machinist 2 works with minimal supervision, performs complex setups, and ensures all components meet exact specifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 5+ years of CNC machining experience.
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges).
• Experience reading blueprints and GD&T.
• Ability to read English instructions and follow SOPs.
• Familiarity with CNC programming and machine safety.

Responsibilities

• Perform machine set-ups on manual lathes, CNC lathes, CNC mills, and Waterjet machines for all programs and part types, including production and/or engineering parts with light assistance.
• Perform typical machine shop operations to support the assembly floor.
• Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations.
• Perform preventative maintenance on machines as required per PM charts.
• Conduct visual inspections of machines for damage or wear.
• Read and interpret blueprints and drawings for all processes and programs.
• Train incoming Operators and Set-Up Technicians.
• Verify gage calibration.
• Perform machine fixturing for all set-ups.
• Identify and properly use all tooling, including understanding names and functions.
• Assist other departments as necessary with management approval.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
