Shop Supervisor or Team Lead, as assigned

FUNCTION:Set up, adjust and operate all manual machines in a custom job shop. Set up, make tool changes, and load programs on CNC machinery. Work with carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, plastics and other exotic materials.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES (Minimum Requirements):

Set up, adjust and operate all machines to perform a variety of machining operations on a diversified line of work. Work sometimes involves critical interrelationships and concentricity between surfaces. Tolerances/finishes are sometimes difficult to maintain. Handle parts appropriately to maintain required tolerances/finishes after machining process is complete.

Plan and select feeds, speeds and tooling for all machine tools. Plan and select work holding setups, tooling, cutting sequence and depth of cuts. Perform layout work where jigs are not available. Grind tools including form tools. Recommend new tooling to improve efficiency, life or part quality. Strong aptitude for maintaining and improving quality.

Work from drawings, specifications and sketches. Use a variety of precision measuring instruments. Check own work, which is subject to final fit, performance and sample audits by other Machinists.

Edit feeds and speeds, load existing program, and operate CNC machinery.

May be required to set-up and assist machine operators and other employees assigned to Machine Shop.

Observe company safety rules, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed and/or prescribed. Frequently lifts materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Operate cranes to move larger/heavier items.

Perform other work as supervisor may require.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  1. Education:
    1. High school education or equivalent experience.
    2. Courses in shop math, blueprint reading, and machining; experience may substitute.
  1. Experience:
    1. At least four years in a machine shop.
    2. Experience working with stainless steel preferred.

    9. Ability to bend, reach, squat, and lift up to 50 pounds.
    10. Good spatial orientation, eye-hand coordination and eyesight.
    11. Ability to read complex blueprints and work instructions.
    12. Promotes safe work environment and demonstrates safe work practices.
    13. Ability to set up and operate all manual and CNC machines.
    14. Ability to use precision measuring instruments.
