Job summary

Chromalox is hiring a Machinist II to set up and operate machines and machining centers, fabricating parts and assembling units. The role requires reading blueprints, performing precise measurements, and maintaining tools and fixtures to ensure automotive-grade tolerances.

You will work on both mills and lathes, conduct inspections, and perform basic TPM maintenance. The position emphasizes attention to detail and teamwork in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, drawings and instructions.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, proportions and decimals.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies conformance of processes or work piece to specifications.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts controls as required.
  • Verifies finished work piece conformance using precision measurements (micrometers, height gauges, gauge blocks).
  • Fits and assembles parts into complete assemblies using jigs, fixtures and hand/power tools.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance on machines as scheduled.

The Role:

Sets up and operates machines and machining centers to fabricate parts; fits and assembles machined parts into complete units, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and layout techniques.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Verifies conformance of processes or work piece to specifications.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications, using precision measurements, including micrometers, height gauges, and gauge blocks.
  • Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance on machines as scheduled and required for TPM.
    Works individually and as a team.
  • Conducts tests and inspections of products, examines products or work to verify conformance to specifications.
  • May be required to cross train and demonstrate competency on all essential job functions of the department working at different workstations as production needs require.
  • Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships; training and teaching others.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area free of excess materials.
  • Support of and involvement in company, department, and/or safety policies, procedures, programs and activities.
Must know how to set up, tear down and run Manual Mills and Lathes
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with 3-4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, proportions and decimals. Ability and understanding of various measuring devices.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, work orders, work instructions, diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Work requires continual attention to detail in follow through, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
