Job summary

Chromalox is seeking an Assembler to build electrical product sub-assemblies by following verbal and written instructions, drawings and customer specifications. You will route, wire and install components, cut wires, insulate connections, and perform basic tests.

Requires a high school diploma or GED (or 1–2 years related experience). Attention to detail and the ability to read blueprints are essential for meeting production deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using various units of measure.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, diagrams, and instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles products or sub-assemblies by following drawings, blueprints and customer specifications.
  • Routes, wires, assemble and install electrical and electronic components using hand tools and equipment.
  • Cuts wire to specified lengths and insulates connections; crimps terminals as needed.
  • May conduct functional and continuity tests of electrical assemblies and assist with repair.
  • Maintains clean and orderly work area and supports TPM maintenance.

The Role:

Under limited supervision, completes complicated electrical product or sub-assembly wiring by following verbal and written instructions, blueprints, drawings or diagrams according to customer specifications in order to determine established assembly methods.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Assembles products or sub-assemblies by following verbal or written instructions, drawings, diagrams, work orders, blueprints, and customer specifications to determine established assembly methods for electrical wiring or mechanical assembly.
  • Routes, wires, assemble, and install electrical and electronic components according to specifications, using hand tools and assembly equipment.
  • Cuts wire to specified lengths, using wire cutters; cuts plastic sleeves and slips sleeves over wire ends to insulate connections and crimps terminal eyelets and lugs to wire ends, using hand or machine crimping device; connects wiring to electrical components.
  • May conduct functional and continuity tests of electrical assemblies and components, using ohmmeter and other electrical testing instruments; may evaluate cause of product failures and assist with repair.
  • Screws/fastens parts together by hand, or using hand tools or portable power tools; may tend machines, to assist with fitting or fastening operations.
  • May remove small quantities of metal, using hand files, portable grinders or sandblasting equipment to clean parts or to produce close fit between parts during assembly.
  • Drills, taps, or reams holes, using hand tools or a portable drill; may operate a riveting tool to assist in assembly operation.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance on machines as scheduled and required for TPM.
  • Works individually and as a team to develop and implement quality and efficiency improvements.
  • Conducts tests and inspections of products, or processes to evaluate quality or performance; examines products or work to verify conformance to specifications.
  • May be required to cross train and demonstrate competency on all essential job functions of the department working at different workstations as production needs require.
  • Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships; training and teaching others.
  • Maintenance of a clean and orderly work area free of excess materials.
  • Support of and involvement in company, department, and/or safety policies, procedures, programs and activities.
Our Requirements:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with production processes, machines and/or tools.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, proportions and decimals. Ability and understanding of various measuring devices in meeting drawing dimensions and specifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, work orders, work instructions, diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Work requires continual attention to detail in follow through, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
