General Description

Produce parts using standard machining processes.

DUTIES

1. Calculate dimensions and tolerances and have significant knowledge of mathematics and precision measurement instruments. Fabricate assemblies or subassemblies using machine tools such as saws, lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders.
2. Make setup decisions relative to the part, product, and material being used.
3. Measure and examine completed products to ensure they meet drawing and customer requirements.
4. Make adjustments and setup changes of a minor nature on basic machine tools and equipment.
5. Align and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials onto machines.
6. Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process and make necessary adjustments to ensure proper machine performance.
7. Evaluate the machining process to ensure that the area is clear of all potential hazards.
8. Ensure all PPE is in place prior to beginning the machining process.
9. Train and assist Machinist I.
10. Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements

1. High School diploma or equivalent and trade school diploma in Machining/Machining Science.
2. 4 to 7 years work history in a machining environment.
3. Ability to read and machine product from complex engineering drawings.
4. Capable of controlling the operations of equipment or systems used to produce machined products.
5. Monitoring of gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure proper machine operations.
6. Capable of using advanced mathematics and experience in machining to solve problems.
7. The ability to select the right tool for the job.
8. Basic knowledge of CNC programming and ability to make minor program edits.
9. Capable of producing products from engineering drawings.
10. Significant experience in the use of precision measurement instruments.
11. Significant knowledge of raw materials used in the machining industry.
12. Ability to train others.
13. Ability to inspect work area for safety hazards prior to operations.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to walk or stand on level and inclined surfaces and sit for extended periods.
• Must be able to climb/descend stairs as needed.
• Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to grasp objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees, and reach above/below shoulders.
• Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
• Work in a manufacturing environment.
