Clarkson University is seeking a Machinist I to support both teaching and research machining needs in Potsdam, NY. You will operate manual and CNC machines, develop fixtures, and ensure parts meet tight tolerances while mentoring students and maintaining a safe shop environment.

The role emphasizes collaboration with faculty, staff and students, with opportunities to translate ideas into functional prototypes and to work on diverse projects in a professional machine shop.

Qualifications

• Minimal qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. Demonstrate Mechanical Aptitude.
• Preferred: Associate degree with Journeyman certificate in machine trades.
• Minimal experience: 0–2 years in machine trades; willing to learn.
• Preferred experience: 5+ years in machine trades.

Responsabilités

• Operate manual lathes and mills with proper tooling, speeds and feeds.
• Program, operate and maintain CNC lathes and machining centers.
• Read prints and interpret engineering drawings for tight tolerances.
• Develop fixtures and use CAD/Mastercam for toolpaths.
• Use inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators) to verify work.
• Provide instruction to students and ensure safe shop practices.
