Overview

Join Kyocera International, Inc. as a Machinist 4 at our Vancouver, WA location. This is a stable, long‑term opportunity in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. Machinists with endmill/drill grinding and/or tool and die making experience are preferred.

Pay Range: $25 - $36 per hour. Actual base pay is based on factors such as relevant experience, education, market, qualifications, and skills.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Machinist 4 sets up and operates a wide variety of industrial machines which may include CNC Mills, CNC Lathes, Vertical Machining Centers, and surface grinders to machine ceramic parts. Machinists are expected to run 1–4 machines simultaneously and handle setup and precision measuring. They may also train other operators and machinists.

REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 7+ years CNC experience or completion of a 2‑year Machine Technology certificate (on‑the‑job training acceptable)
  • Ability to read and comprehend verbal and written instructions in English
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure including decimal fractions
  • Read mechanical drawings/blueprints including GD & T
  • Vision and depth perception suitable for inspection microscopes
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds; ability to stand or walk for extended periods
  • Ability to mentor, train or lead other Operators and machinists
  • Must pass criminal background check and drug screen
  • Eligible to work in an ITAR environment
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Set up and observe CNC machine operation to detect malfunctions or out‑of‑tolerance machining; adjust machine controls or indicators as required. This includes tool offset adjustments using various controllers (Haas, Fanuc, Okuma, etc.).
  2. Measure, mark, and/or scribe dimensions and reference points on parts; review technique cards and customer work orders for changes.
  3. Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines to maintain .0005 tolerances.
  4. Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors (speed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut) and edit machine codes as needed.
  5. Document scrapped parts or machine issues; communicate with peers to ensure continuous machine utilization.
  6. Verify conformance of finished parts to specifications and complete First Article Inspections; read prints and inspect parts per ISO 9001; troubleshoot with other machinists as needed.
  7. Trained on CMM and/or optical comparator; use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, depth gauges) to ensure GD&T quality checks.
  8. Report machine failures, non‑conformance, spills, accidents, EHS concerns and maintenance requests promptly.
  9. Participate in P5S initiatives; keep machinery clean and area free of debris; address spills, gauges, and sensors promptly.
  10. Perform basic preventative maintenance on machines; keep records of maintenance activities.
  11. Adhere to safety programs and PPE requirements; model and train others on safety procedures and directives.
  12. Cross‑train on multiple machine types including 3‑ and 5‑axis CNC machines and diamond tooling; calculate complex dimensions and apply G and M codes and GD&T; diagnose and complete minor repairs.
  13. Work on prototype parts and new specifications with limited instructions; write, test, edit, and troubleshoot programs as assigned.
  14. Communicate with production management, engineers, and quality team to drive departmental improvements; propose innovative solutions.
  15. Fulfill other projects as assigned by engineering and/or supervision.
