Job summary

Celestica, Inc. in Maple Grove, MN seeks a Machinist 3 to operate and maintain advanced machinery, create SolidWorks models, and support mold tooling and production improvements. You will work from complex drawings, ensure dimensional accuracy, and coach peers in machining best practices.

Responsibilities include setting up, calibrating, and maintaining machines, addressing process issues, and driving continuous improvement while adhering to safety standards in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Eleven to fourteen years relevant experience.
  • High school diploma and additional courses after high school or equivalent.
  • In-depth knowledge of machine operations and product quality issues.
  • In-depth knowledge of GD&T, programs, macros and CAM software.

Responsibilities

  • Read complex drawings and set up procedures; select materials per specs.
  • Perform complex machining and grinding with unusual setups.
  • Polish, fit and align components for fixtures, molds and machines.
  • Create SolidWorks models and programs for plate fabrication as needed.
  • Maintain and repair plastic injection molds to support production.
  • Train others and assist in orientation as needed.
  • Lead with minimum supervision while ensuring high quality production.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow safety practices.

Detailed Description
  • Work from complicated drawings, sketches, handbook formulas and specifications. In the absence of design drawings, proceed from verbal instructions and/or concept drawings, organize and determine work procedures and sequences, select materials in accordance with specifications.
  • Perform complex machining and grinding operations requiring complicated and unusual setups necessitating frequent improvising and adaptations of machines and tools.
  • Perform critical bench operations involving polishing, fitting and aligning component parts of fixtures, molds, and machines.
  • Create Solid Works models and programs for the plate fabrication department as needed.
  • Assist with set up of Molds.
  • Maintain and repair plastic injection molds to support production.
  • Build, design and maintain tools for production and instruct Department Lead Person, Supervisor or Machine Operators on their use, care, and operational methods and procedures.
  • Proceed on work assignments with minimum supervision and direction.
  • Responsible for quality of workmanship, dimensional accuracy and efficient operation of assigned projects.
  • Works under general supervision and gives no work direction to others.
  • Keeps facilities, materials, and work area clean and organized, exercising care in their use.
  • Uses safety practices and takes prompt action to correct problems.
  • Assists co-workers when necessary to meet work unit goals.
  • Actively seeks continuous improvement opportunities.

Physical Demands
  • Duties of this position are performed in a manufacturing environment with occasional to frequent exposure to elements such as noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, etc.
  • Duties of the position require periodic light physical effort and exertion including prolonged repetitive motions requiring manual dexterity and precise hand/eye co-ordination, sitting and or standing in confined workspaces, using tools and equipment, and moving and handling materials.
  • Duties may require periodic heavy manual effort including lifting objects over.
  • Duties require extended periods of sustained visual concentration on detailed documentation and product assemblies.
  • Above demands are carried out within the local existing Health and Safety guidelines.

Compensation Data

Hourly EEs:

The hourly range described in this posting is an estimate by the Company, and may change based on several factors, including by not limited to a change in the duties covered by the job posting, or the credentials, experience or geographic jurisdiction of the successful candidate. Hourly Range: $31.00 - $43.00
