Job summary

CF&I Steel, L.P. is looking for a Machinist to join our Maintenance team in Pueblo, Colorado. The ideal candidate will have an AAS degree in Machining Technology or equivalent and demonstrate proficiency in Machining Technology.

Job Overview

At CF&I Steel, L.P., our strength starts with our people! We are seeking a Machinist to join our Maintenance team at our Pueblo, Colorado location.

Responsibilities
  • Machine, disassemble, and assemble parts for equipment and machines in a safe manner.
  • Use lathes, milling machines, vertical and horizontal boring mills, shapers/slotter machines, surface and cylindrical grinders, radial drill presses, hand, power and measuring tools, radio‑controlled overhead cranes, forklifts, presses and other shop equipment.
  • Perform bench‑floor and field work, including alignments.
  • Utilize materials such as castings, forgings, bar stock, flats and rounds.
  • Read prints and drawings, layout and plan work according to blueprints, and select proper materials and machines for precision machining.
  • Test, inspect, dismantle, assemble and repair machined products accurately, providing for handling of materials, equipment and tools when needed.
  • Observe all safety rules and LOTO procedures.
  • Keep work area and equipment clean and orderly.
  • Perform routine maintenance and assist Maintenance personnel.
  • Work in both inside and outside environmental conditions, exposed to elevated noise levels, oils, solvents, extreme temperatures, moving parts, chips, shavings and sharp tools.
Qualifications
  • Machinist Apprenticeship, AAS degree in Machining Technology or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all categories of Machining Technology, including critical alignments and sophisticated measuring tools.
  • Ability to perform installation and set‑up of Class 5 bearings and Babbitt bearing fits.
  • Competent in manipulating numbers, quantities, shapes and spaces; able to take precise measurements and calculate necessary dimensions.
  • Ability to repair machinery required in operating departments and roll shops.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License.
  • Self‑starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision and manage time when given multiple tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of personnel.
  • Physical ability to climb, walk, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, make repetitive motions, hear, etc.; ability to exert forces up to 50 pounds and frequently up to 100 pounds to lift, carry, push and pull.
  • Qualified candidates will be required to demonstrate proficiency through testing.
