Job summary

CFI Steel, L.P. in Pueblo, Colorado seeks a Machinist to join our Maintenance team. You will machine, disassemble, and assemble parts for equipment in a safe manner under the Maintenance Superintendent.

Responsibilities include reading prints, selecting materials and machines, performing testing and inspection, and adhering to safety rules including LOTO. This role requires the ability to work inside and outside, and to lift up to 100 pounds.

Qualifications

  • Machinist Apprenticeship or AAS in Machining Technology or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with critical alignments and precision measuring tools.
  • Colorado Driver's License and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Job Description and Responsibilities

We are seeking a Machinist to join our Maintenance team at our Pueblo, Colorado location. The machinist will machine, disassemble, and assemble parts for equipment and machines in a safe manner. This position reports to the Maintenance Superintendent.

  • Use lathes, milling machines, vertical and horizontal boring mills, shapers/slotter machines, surface and cylindrical grinders, radial drill presses, appropriate hand, power and measuring tools, radio‑controlled overhead cranes, forklifts, presses and all other shop equipment
  • Work bench‑floor & field work, including alignments
  • Utilize materials which include castings, forgings, bar stock flats and rounds
  • Read prints and drawings, layout and plan work according to blueprints, and select proper materials and machines necessary for precision machining of product
  • Test, inspect, dismantle, assemble and repair machined product accurately while making provisions for handling of materials, equipment and tools when needed
  • Observe all safety rules and LOTO procedures
  • Keep work area and equipment clean and orderly
  • Perform routine maintenance and assist Maintenance personnel
  • Work in both inside and outside environmental conditions, while exposed to elevated noise levels, oils, solvents, and oil‑based products, extreme cold and heat; close proximity to moving parts, chips, shavings, scale, and sharp tools
  • Obtain and maintain OSHA 10 and equipment certifications, as required
  • Additional tasks as assigned
Requirements
  • Machinist Apprenticeship, AAS degree in Machining Technology or equivalent in an applicable field
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all categories of Machining Technology, including critical alignments and sophisticated measuring tools
  • Ability to perform installation and set‑up of “Class 5” bearings & Babbitt Bearing Fits
  • Competent in manipulating numbers, quantities, shapes and spaces; able to take precise measurements and calculate necessary dimensions
  • Ability to repair machinery required in operating departments and roll shops
  • Valid Colorado Driver's License
  • Must be a self‑starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision and manage time when given multiple tasks
  • Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of personnel
  • Physical ability to climb, walk, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, make repetitive motions, hear, etc. and to constantly exert forces up to 50 pounds and frequently exert forces up to 100 pounds to lift, carry, push and pull
  • Qualified candidates will be required to demonstrate proficiency through testing
Compensation
  • $28.37 to $32.97 per hour with incremental hourly
  • Shift differential
