Job summary

SMS group is seeking a Manual Machinist to set up and operate lathes, mills and accessories to meet quality assurance requirements for rolls and other parts. You will contribute to a safe, efficient machine shop environment in North America.

The ideal candidate is safety minded, able to read blueprints, convert measurements, and train others while maintaining organized work areas. HS diploma or equivalent is required, with hands-on metalworking skills.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read precise measuring tools.
• Basic trig functions and measurement conversions.
• Ability to learn critical processes and operations in assigned areas.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate lathes, mills and accessories to perform operations on rolls and other parts to meet quality requirements.
• Complete SOP travelers and document daily activities.
• Interpret assembly drawings and blueprints.
• Follow safety precautions and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Rig heavy machinery with overhead crane and assist training of other employees.

Summary

The Manual Machinist will set up and operate lathes, mills and accessories to perform a variety of operations on rolls and other parts to meet quality assurance requirements.

The Right Candidate Will

• Be a safety minded person who enjoys hands on work.
• Ability to set up and operate both CNC and manual machinery for use in metal working applications.
• Complete SOP travelers and document daily activities.
• Interpret assembly and blue prints drawings.
• Follow proper safety precautions.
• Must be courteous and work well with others.
• Ability to properly rig heavy machinery and equipment for use with overhead crane.
• Ability to train new or other employees to perform same job responsibilities
• Maintain an organized and clean work area.
• Drug free, safety minded and maintain an excellent attendance record

What You'll Need

• Converting metric and standard measurements.
• Basic Trigonometry functions.
