Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of related experience and/or training.

Role Overview

The Field Service Machinist I is responsible for setting up and operating CNC, manual, and portable field machine tools to repair steam and gas turbine components. This role involves interpreting technical documentation, inspecting parts to ensure precision, and traveling extensively to perform on-site machining services. The ideal candidate demonstrates technical competence, precision, and adaptability in high-demand field environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate CNC, manual, and portable field machine tools including lathes, mills, borers, and grinders.

  • Calculate and adjust machine parameters including spindle position, cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow.

  • Monitor machine operations and identify malfunctions or irregularities.

  • Use precision measuring instruments to inspect machined parts for accuracy and conformance to specifications.

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, planning sheets, and sketches.

  • Perform dimensional inspections and complete all required documentation.

  • Clean machines and tooling, and perform preventative maintenance as assigned.

  • Travel extensively (approximately 70%), including overnight assignments by land or air.

  • Maintain eligibility for access to nuclear facilities, including necessary clearances.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of three (3) years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents, write clearly, and effectively communicate in small group settings.

  • Mathematical Skills: Proficient in basic mathematical calculations relevant to machining operations.

  • Reasoning Ability: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to apply logical thinking to complex machining tasks.

  • Computer Skills: Familiarity with computer applications such as email, spreadsheets, word processing, and interpreting technical drawings.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, talk, and hear.

  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in designated areas.

  • Exposure to industrial environments with potential hearing protection requirements.
