Job summary

Celeros Flow Technology in Baton Rouge is seeking an experienced Machinist to perform manual turning, milling, and threading with a focus on pumps and rotating equipment in a shop setting. You will work under the Shop Supervisor and collaborate with Multi‑Skilled technicians.

The role requires reading blueprints, setting up machines, selecting tooling, and maintaining very tight tolerances using precision gauges. Prior experience with various materials and safe machining practices is expected.

Qualifications

  • Read, interpret, and apply blueprints and drawings.
  • Maintain very tight tolerances and surface finish requirements.
  • Proficiency with measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators).
  • Collaborate with technicians and supervisor in a shop environment.

Job description

Work Schedule/Hours: Day Shift - Air-conditioned workplace

Pay Range: $32 - $35/hour based on experience

Job Summary

The Machinist will perform manual machining operations including but not limited to turning, threading, and milling. There will be an emphasis on pumps or rotating equipment in a shop environment. You’ll work collaboratively with other Multi‑Skilled technicians under the direction of the Shop Supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Setting up and operating various machines used for milling and turning, and using tools required for operating manual machines.
  • Reading and interpreting work orders to select proper work center and identify required tooling to perform the operation.
  • Obtaining and installing proper tooling, such as jaws, chucks, fixtures, and cutting tools.
  • Using various gauges and precision instruments (i.e. calipers, IDOD micrometers, indicators, and special gaging equipment, etc.) to ensure quality is maintained and tolerances are met.
  • Cleaning and removing burrs after the operation is completed.
  • Training other employees on a variety of machine tools and operations.
  • Returning tooling and reporting any difficulties with tooling or material.
  • Maintain and practice safe machining tool usage such as lathe guards, chuck guards and PPE.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Read, write, speak and comprehend English.
  • Add, subtract, multiply, divide and work with fractional measurements and decimals.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all machine tools in your area of responsibility in order to produce various parts within specifications from blueprints.
  • Read and understand basic manufacturing mechanical blueprints, and use good basic math skills in addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.
  • Hold very close tolerances and surface finish requirements.
  • Exceptional teamwork skills and strong communication abilities.
  • Working knowledge or ability to learn to use a micrometer, depth micrometer, dial indicators, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • A demonstrated history of good attendance and a safe work record.
Education and Experience
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 8+ years of manual machining working with manual engine lathes, VTL’s, HBM’s and surface grinders.
  • Experience working with very tight tolerance of +/- .001.
  • The ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and other documents.
  • Proficiency with measuring equipment, such as calipers, gauges and micrometers.
  • Experience working with variety of materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, hard coated components, and composite materials.
  • Horizontal mill experience preferred.
  • Lean understanding and practices preferred.
