Job summary

ABC Sheet Metal is seeking an experienced 5-axis CNC setup machinist for the 2nd shift. You will independently set up CNC mills, prove out programs, and run production jobs across aerospace, defense, and commercial components.

You will machine precision parts on 3-axis and 5-axis mills using prepared CNC programs, verify first pieces, and collaborate with programming and quality teams to maintain tight tolerances and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of CNC setup and machining experience.
• Hands-on experience independently setting up and operating 5-axis CNC mills, plus 3-axis mill experience.
• Strong blueprint reading and GD&T skills.
• Proficiency in basic G-code editing, precision measurement, and machining troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Complete machine setups, including tooling, fixtures, workholding, tool and work offsets, datums, and part alignment.
• Prove out prepared CNC programs, verify the first piece, and run production jobs safely and accurately.
• Make basic G-code edits at the machine and coordinate with programming personnel to resolve program issues.
• Perform in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
• Build or modify fixtures, soft jaws, and setup tooling; use manual or conventional shop equipment as needed.
• Troubleshoot dimensional, surface finish, tooling, and workholding issues; adjust offsets, speeds, feeds, and tooling to maintain quality.
• Collaborate with programming, quality, and production personnel to improve setup time, cycle time, and machining consistency.

$33-$45 per hour, depending on experience

Monday-Thur | 2:00 PM-12:30 AM | 4/10 Schedule | Every Friday Off

About the Opportunity

ABC Sheet Metal is hiring an experienced 5-axis CNC setup machinist to independently set up CNC mills, prove out programs, and run production jobs.

You’ll work on 3-axis and 5-axis mills using prepared CNC programs to machine precision components, tooling, fixtures, formed sheet metal parts, weldments, and fabricated assemblies.

We are an AS9100D-certified manufacturer serving aerospace, defense, and commercial customers, with capabilities in precision machining, sheet metal fabrication, and welding.

Required Qualifications

• 6+ years of CNC setup and machining experience in a precision machining, job shop, or similarly complex manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on experience independently setting up and operating 5-axis CNC mills, along with 3-axis mill experience.
• Strong blueprint reading and GD&T skills.
• Proficiency in basic G-code editing, precision measurement, custom workholding, and machining troubleshooting.
• Ability to work independently, communicate technical issues clearly, and meet quality and production requirements.
• Availability to work the stated second-shift schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

• Haas UMC-Series setup experience strongly preferred, with Haas or Renishaw probing experience a plus. Qualified candidates with 5-axis mill setup experience on other machine brands are encouraged to apply.
• Aerospace manufacturing experience or familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality systems.
• Secondary machining experience involving formed sheet metal components, weldments, or fabricated assemblies.
