Job summary

Latitude Corp is seeking a Machining Process Engineer to join its 100% employee-owned team in Verona, WI. You will develop and refine machining processes, introduce new products to production, and drive manufacturability improvements across multiple equipment types including CNC turning and milling.

You will collaborate with quality and sales engineering, mentor operators, and manage multiple projects while ensuring quality, lead-time and cost targets are met.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing/Industrial/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in metal machining or 15 years in process improvement.
  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing and machining processes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, define, review and analyze machining production processes.
  • Launch new products into production ensuring manufacturability.
  • Create work instructions, troubleshoot, and improve product flow.
  • Identify cost savings and evaluate new machining equipment/techniques.
  • Lead or participate in equipment and technology implementation.
  • Mentor operators and ensure quality and safety standards.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for developing, defining, reviewing, and analyzing Machining production processes. Responsible for the development and introduction of new products into production and ensuring their manufacturability. Responsible for accuracy of work instructions and product flow, as well as technical troubleshooting of new and modified products. Responsible for identifying and evaluating product cost savings options. Responsible for identifying new machining equipment and technologies to improve processes.

  • Develop and maintain efficient manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Participate and/or lead the planning of new or revised products and processes launch for the Value Stream.
  • Project manage and support the implementation of new equipment and technology for machining to enhance manufacturing efficiency.
  • Collaborate with quality and sales engineering to ensure that products meet quality and safety standards.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshoot machining issues.
  • Mentor and train machining operators on new processes or equipment.
  • Apply customers concepts or blueprints to manufacturing methods to determine manufacturing feasibility.
  • Create Internal Drawings and Method of Manufacturing for Machining.
  • Create and process development jobs to support product manufacturability.
  • Oversee first production run ensuring productivity and quality targets are met.
  • Review methods of manufacturing, BOMs and routings to ensure that they accurately reflect the process followed on the floor.
  • Other ad hoc duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to apply basic principles, theories, and concepts within the mechanical engineering field and general knowledge of other related disciplines
  • Demonstrable natural curiosity and critical thinking
  • Ability to design and apply lean manufacturing concepts
  • Ability to understand and explain processes, schematics, blueprints and/or technical manuals
  • Demonstrated skill in solving highly technical problems on complex, tight tolerance parts
  • Experience with:
  • 3 axis and live tooling CNC Turning
  • 3, 4, and 5 axis Vertical and Horizontal Milling
  • Swiss Turning equipped with a LFV option, high pressure coolant and programmable in the B-axis.
  • Boring, broaching, and other machine operations
  • Metrology and various measurement techniques
  • Master Cam and CMM programming a plus
  • Proficient in using computer-aided design (CAD) software, solid works preferred
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong accuracy with attention to detail
Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineer or related field with at least 3 years’ experience working in metal machining environment, or 15 years machining experience in a broad array of equipment focused on process improvement, in lieu of degree.
