Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. seeks a Machine Software & Controls Test Engineer to advance machine software testing and controls validation at our Washington, IL location.

You will plan and execute on-machine tests for Medium Track-Type Tractor platforms, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive safety, quality and continuous improvement. You will leverage tools like CANape, DATK, Cadet and CAT ET to analyze data, validate features, and ensure robust performance in the field.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Experience in testing or validation within heavy equipment, automotive, or industrial machinery.
• Proficiency with CAT ET, CANape, Cadet and related electrical troubleshooting tools.
• Strong data analysis and reporting to support test results and process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute software and controls tests for current and next-generation machinery and platforms.
• Develop test plans, document procedures, execute validations, and analyze results.
• Collaborate with engineers, software teams, and technicians to ensure quality and schedule adherence.
• Troubleshoot complex electrical, electronic, and software systems in testing environments.
• Leverage data to drive actionable insights and continuous improvement.
