Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Senior Associate Engineer to join the Construction Industries Transmission Development team within Drivetrain Control Systems & Validation.

This onsite role spans Mossville, IL and Washington, IL, with up to 20% travel, focusing on test, validation, and calibration for transmission and torque converter controls. You will acquire machine data, support calibration, document results, and collaborate across design, software, and validation teams to improve drivetrain

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accredited Engineering curriculum and the ability to apply engineering principles to drivetrain controls, machine performance, and validation activities.
• Experience with powershift transmission, torque converter, drivetrain, or engine design, development, test, or validation work.
• Experience with control system software development, calibration, data acquisition, or machine test tools and processes.
• Ability to collect, interpret, and summarize test data to support calibration decisions, issue resolution, and engineering recommendations.
• Strong oral and written communication skills with cross-functional teamwork in engineering, shop, lab, and field environments.
• Ability to operate machines in field, shop, and lab environments with training.
• Willingness to travel up to 20%.

Responsibilities

• Operate Caterpillar equipment as a test and validation engineer to challenge drivetrain systems and identify durability concerns.
• Plan and execute on-machine tests to optimize transmission control systems and calibrations.
• Support control software calibration, instrumentation setup, data collection, and documentation of results and recommendations.
• Become proficient in calibration tools and data acquisition processes for transmission control systems.
• Analyze test data to evaluate system performance and support issue resolution and improvements.
• Collaborate with design, systems integration, and validation teams to develop and optimize hardware and controls for powershift transmissions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of test methods, calibration practices, and documentation quality.
