Job summary

Arconic Lafayette, IN is seeking a Machine Shop Supervisor to lead the Machine Shop within the Aluminum Extrusion (AEX) unit. You will oversee manual and CNC machining, coordinate daily operations, ensure safety, quality, and on-time parts.

The role requires 5-7+ years hands-on machining and supervisory experience, strong leadership, and the ability to work with Engineering, Maintenance, and Production teams; relocation assistance available and travel <25%.

Qualifications

• 5-7+ years of hands-on machining, fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial experience with supervisory responsibilities.
• Experience supervising employees, assigning work, prioritizing schedules, and managing multiple projects.
• Ability to read, interpret, and understand engineered drawings, blueprints, specifications, and tolerances.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Experience with CNC and manual machine setup, programming principles, tooling selection, and machining processes.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
• US citizenship or eligible to access controlled technology per ITAR.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily operations and personnel of Lafayette’s Machine Shop consisting of manual and CNC lathes, mills, grinders, saws, waterjet cutting systems, welding equipment, and other fabrication machinery.
• Enforce OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and safe work practices throughout the Machine Shop and Fabrication Shop.
• Inspect completed work and finished parts to verify compliance with engineering drawings, dimensional requirements, quality standards, and customer specifications.
• Support troubleshooting of machining and fabrication challenges, including tooling, setups, programming, and process improvements to maximize equipment utilization and workforce efficiency.
• Monitor department performance, labor utilization, and schedule adherence while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain proper maintenance and care of shop equipment including lathes, saws, grinders, mills, CNC-operated machinery, waterjet systems, and fabrication equipment.
• Facilitate, coordinate, and document employee training, cross-training, certifications, and skills development activities.
• Work closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and Production teams to support plant priorities, breakdowns, and project work.

Directly reporting to the Technical Operations Manager, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Machine Shop Supervisor to lead and coordinate daily operations within the Machine & Fabrication Shop in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in machining and fabrication processes, leadership experience, workforce development, and a strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement. The supervisor will be responsible for ensuring efficient utilization of personnel and equipment to supply quality machine made parts on time.

Responsibilities

In this role you will:

• Supervise daily operations and personnel of Arconic Lafayette’s Machine Shop consisting of manual and CNC lathes, mills, grinders, saws, waterjet cutting systems, welding equipment, and other fabrication machinery.
• Enforce OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and safe work practices throughout the Machine Shop and Fabrication Shop.

• Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment through regular inspections, housekeeping standards, and corrective actions.

• Facilitate, coordinate, and document employee training, cross-training, certifications, and skills development activities.
• Work closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and Production teams to support plant priorities, breakdowns, and project work.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent vocational training preferred.
• 5-7+ years of hands-on machining, fabrication, manufacturing, or industrial experience, including lead or supervisory responsibilities.
• Demonstrated knowledge of manual and CNC machining operations, fabrication processes, welding operations, and general shop practices.
• Experience supervising employees, assigning work, prioritizing schedules, and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to read, interpret, and understand engineered drawings, blueprints, specifications, geometric tolerancing, and work instructions.
• Working knowledge of CNC and manual machine setup, programming principles, tooling selection, machine operation, and machining processes.
• Experience utilizing computer-based scheduling systems, work order systems, production tracking software, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed.
• This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. 730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Qualified candidate must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the relevant government agency. Business demands may require employer to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or associate degree in Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related technical field.
• Experience working and/or supervising in a union manufacturing environment.
• Experience and knowledge of Oracle EAM work order system.
• Extensive experience with manual machine tools including lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses, saws, and related equipment.
• Deep familiarity with different materials, metals and alloys to select proper cutting parameters, troubleshoot machining issues, and guide machinists on feed rates and tooling.

Lafayette Operations in Lafayette, IN is located approximately 60 miles from the state's capital, Indianapolis and is the home to Purdue University. Our Lafayette location has been continuously running in Lafayette community since 1938. We are an Aluminum Extrusions plant for Aerospace, Automotive, Industrial and Defense facility.
