Arconic is seeking a General Mechanic to join our Aluminum Extrusion (AEX) business unit in Lafayette, IN. Arconic creates breakthrough products that shape industries. Responsibilities
  • Be willing to work a fixed or rotating 24X7 work schedule (8‑ or 12‑hour shifts). You may be required to work evenings, nights, holidays, and overtime.
  • Design, fabricate, install, repair, modify and maintain machines, equipment, structures and facilities.
  • Apply knowledge of machine parts, metal stock, pins, tubing, fittings, mechanical hardware, compressed gases, oil, grease, paint, acids, fiber optics, specialty metals.
Tools and Equipment
  • Tools common to the craft of millwright, pipefitter, welder, layout person, rigger, and blacksmith, such as drill press, saws, abrasive cutoff wheel, grinders and shears.
  • Pipe fitting equipment.
  • Welding and burning equipment.
  • Hoists.
  • Cranes.
  • Non‑destructive testing equipment.
  • Personal computer; PLC terminals.

Basic Qualifications
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position requires access to controlled technology as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. 730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Qualified candidates must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the relevant government agency.
  • Satisfactorily pass a comprehensive online and hands‑on skills test.
  • Pass a physical examination, drug screen test and background check.
  • The minimum requirements are 5 years of Journeyman experience or equivalent maintaining heavy equipment with a working knowledge of welding, machine repair, millwright, hydraulics, sheet metal, pipe fitting, and blueprints.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate of an approved apprentice program or have formal technical training beyond high school. Or a Journeyman’s card (DOL Certificate or equivalent). Testing and a skills demonstration will be required. Permanent employment subject to a probation period not to exceed 6 months.
  • If you are currently working as a general mechanic, proof of experience and/or a copy of your Journeyman’s card must accompany your application.
