Job summary

Monroe Energy in Pennsylvania seeks a Machine Shop Supervisor to lead repairs of rotating equipment across the on-site machine shop and refinery units. You will supervise union and non-union mechanics, contractors, and the tool room to ensure safe, cost-effective work.

Key Role Description

The Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for leading rotating equipment repair work that takes place in both the on-site machine shop and throughout the refinery operating units. This includes, but is not limited to pumps, turbines, motors, fans, and other related equipment. This role oversees union mechanics, contractors (both union and non-union), and other specialty vendors to ensure they successfully complete their tasks in a safe and cost-effective manner. This role is also responsible for supervising the tool room. The Machine Shop Supervisor works closely with the Maintenance Planning group and the Reliability Engineering department to create and execute repair plans on rotating equipment. Crafts supervised include millwrights, machinists, and tool room mechanics. The Machine Shop Supervisor assures all maintenance work complies with applicable safety, engineering, safe practice standards, laws, and regulations.

• Directs the activities of hourly employees and contractors in maintaining assigned refinery facilities ensuring compliance with procedures and repair standards to allow Operations to produce desired products at planned rates at the minimum maintenance cost.

Knowledge of Work Areas and Responsibilities

demonstrates a clear understanding of role and responsibilities within specific area, flexible and agile in adapting to changes or exploring opportunities and challenges.

• Works closely with the Rotating Equipment Planner on developing job plans, cost estimates and manpower requirements on the Rotating Equipment jobs.
• Performs investigations and issues reports on near misses, incidents or injuries that occur within the refinery as to their root cause, and how to prevent recurrence.
• Works closely with the Rotating Equipment Engineering group on formal and informal investigations into root cause of mechanical failures, documents findings and communicates to appropriate people through reports, toolbox meetings, and revisions to procedures or other means.
• Develops or modifies maintenance or safety procedures and training materials individually or as part of a team for use by Operations, Maintenance Mechanics, and Supervisors. Attend the daily scheduling meeting to communicate effectively with other Maintenance departments and Operations to resolve any scheduling issues, priority changes, and any problems between Crafts, Operations, Maintenance and other departments. Consults with the Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineering group to ensure that maintenance work meets the requirements of mechanical, process, metallurgical, and environmental codes, policies, and standards.
• Identifies issues, seeks assistance, and implements improved reliability programs in assigned area that will reduce unplanned downtime and maintenance costs.
• Knows and consistently applies company policies, procedures and the collective bargaining agreement. Administers discipline of hourly employees for violations of the Company's policies or procedures.
• Attends the daily morning maintenance meeting to discuss any schedule breakers for the day and coordinate with other maintenance crafts on any exceptions to the daily schedule
• Coordinates with and makes recommendations to Maintenance Leader - Mechanical and Scheduler regarding projected maintenance needs and requirements to facilitate scheduling and manpower resource utilization.
• Initiates requisitions for required materials, tools and contractor services as required
• Tracks progress of equipment sent off-site for repair at other shops.
• Conducts daily safety toolbox talks with work crews
• Arranges overtime & off-hour coverage for employees and contractors as required

Experience and Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

• 5-8 years of supervisory experience in repairing complex industrial rotating equipment; including experience in machine tool operation and machinery component repair methods in a high-risk industry such as refining, petrochemical, or chemical processing.
• High School Diploma or equivalent experience required;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel as well as CMMS software.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all of Role Specific Competencies.
