Summary
The machine operator is responsible for operating and maintaining the saw equipment along with blade punch operation and preparation while meeting quality and productivity standards, as defined in the production schedule.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice.
- Operate and maintain Aluminum Up-Cut Saw and other related equipment required to prep and supply materials for production.
- Complete computer control set-up and adjustments.
- Perform material handling duties to include but not limited to kitting of subassemblies for production assembly and other assembly processes .
- Monitor and drive quality in Blade quality and cutting
- Be active in continuous improvement efforts including volunteering ideas and suggestions.
- Participates in and coordinates programs related to employee communications, placement, training and development, orientation, quality, etc.
- Ensures the consistent use of safety devices and personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Takes ownership in the cleanliness and organization of the metal cutting and forming area.
- Complete paperwork for projects to include materials used, time keeping records, and work order completions.
- Assist in preparing finished products for customer delivery
- Report back to operations team material shortages and inventory discrepancies, so as not to disrupt or cause production downtime.
- Other Duties, as assigned by the Supervisor or VSL
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each ESSENTIAL DUTY satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Education: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience is required,
- Experience: 1-2 years General metal working experience, including press brake, extrusion cutting, and the like preferred. Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Proficient in various conventional sheet metal shop equipment such as (or like), pneumatic punches, cutting equipment, and Press Brake.
- Language and Communication Skills : The ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, work instructions, and memos. Ability to effectively communicate information in a one on one and in a team environment.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret charts.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Attention to Detail : Ability to detail and specifications, read, interpret, and follow work instructions in an orderly manner. Ability to inspect materials according to quality standards

Physical Demands
The ability to stand 8+ hours a day. The ability to reach and bend. The ability to frequently lift, push, or pull, up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 75 pounds. Manual dexterity is required and the ability to operate with hand tools. Ability to do repetitive bending, reaching, stretching, lifting and twisting for 8+ hours. The ability to wear all proper PPE’s , as required . The employee must be able to work in a state of constant alertness and in a safe manner.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, machinery, tools, and more, as the Mechanics area coincides within Warehouse. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate depending on the scope of work.
