Job Summary

The Saw Operator runs the log saw and homogenizing furnace, coordinating all metal movements through the saw, homogenizer, and into the storage yard in a safe, efficient manner. This is a day shift position from 7am-7pm, with a schedule of 3 days on/4 days off or 4 days on/3 days off.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate log saw to cut logs or billets into appropriate lengths.
• Properly label logs and billets with stamping units, color codes, and production tags.
• Move cut logs and billets into the appropriate storage areas.
• Load and unload logs into stacks before and after homogenization.
• Operate the homogenizing furnace.
• Assist the Saw Helper in rolling logs from the table to the saw area.
• Regularly check the sharpness of saw blades.
• Assist in starting and stopping all cast at the cast unit.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Ideal Candidate Will Have

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent; relevant experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience and Skills

• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write simple reports and communicate effectively.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
• Ability to understand and carry out simple instructions.
• Must possess a valid Forklift Operator’s license and have prior forklift experience.
• Ability to operate an overhead crane.
