Job summary

The Toro Company is seeking a Machine Operator II to operate and set up multiple production machines, including lathes and mills, in a cross-functional team. You will read blueprints, monitor equipment, assemblie components, and ensure quality while maintaining records.

Work will occur in a manufacturing environment with a variable schedule, potential overtime, and emphasis on safety, quality, productivity, and attendance. SAP familiarity is required or preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 18 to 36 months related experience; welding/mechanical repair preferred.
  • Machining or fabrication skills beyond basic level.
  • Experience with mechanical repair and assembly tools.
  • Knowledge of SAP and ability to use the system.
  • Reading, clerical, and basic math skills.
  • Ability to move between processes with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Read information from blueprints.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate production equipment in proper sequence.
  • Set up fixtures, mount parts, and perform mechanical assembly with hand/air tools.
  • Inspect parts and detect defects with measuring tools.
  • Perform basic operator maintenance on equipment.
  • Use a computer to check part locations, inventory, and production records.
  • Provide input for troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Meet safety, quality, productivity, performance and attendance metrics.

Machine Operator II At Ditch Witch

Operate one or more of various production machines. Machines operated may include Lathes, mills, drills, saws, automatic welders, benders, punches, shears, flame cuts, hi-definition & plasma, laser, heat treat, shot blast, gun drill, etc. As a cross-functional team member of this division he or she may also assemble components and perform other duties as assigned.

What Will You Do?
  • Read information from blueprints.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate production equipment. This includes monitoring the performance of the machine and carrying out operations in proper sequence.
  • Set up fixtures, mount parts/components in fixtures, and perform mechanical assembly. This includes using hand and air tools (wrenches, torque wrenches, impact wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, etc.).
  • May remove parts from fixtures, clean or de-burr them, check them for quality using measuring tools (micrometers, gauges, tape measures, rules, squares, etc.), and detect and correct defects.
  • Performs basic operator maintenance to the equipment with which they are assigned to avoid down time and loss of production.
  • Use a computer to check part locations, inventory, and maintaining production records.
  • Provide input for troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Consistently meets or exceeds expectations for Safety, Quality, Productivity, Performance and Attendance metrics.
Work Environment
  • Manufacturing plant conditions (indoors, with variable temperature and humidity, noise, and dirt).
  • Physical hazards such as powered vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic, sharp objects, moving machinery, electrical arc-welding equipment, and materials handling.
  • Work with hazardous materials, such as coolant, solvents, oils, grease, and pressurized gases.
  • Variable duties, workloads, and priorities.
  • A variable work schedule (ranging from 8-12 hours daily depending on production needs, with overtime paid after 40 hours per week) and some scheduled work on Saturdays.
  • An expectation to work at least 50% of the Saturdays worked (ET).
What Will You Need?
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Typically, 18 to 36 months of directly related experience required; experience in welding or mechanical repair preferred.
  • Demonstrate and apply a higher degree of skill/knowledge in machining or fabrication than just basic skills.
  • Have basic experience using mechanical repair and assembly tools. This includes wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, etc.
  • Be knowledgeable of SAP and be able to utilize the system, and assist others, based upon job needs.
  • Have appropriate reading, clerical, and basic math skills. This includes the ability to understand written instructions, maintain production records, and calculate sums, differences, and fractions.
  • Demonstrates the ability to move from process to process with little to no supervision.
Essential Physical Functions

The physical demands for this job are classified as heavy and include the following:

  • Be able to regularly handle items weighing in excess of 60 pounds from floor to knuckle.
  • Be able to regularly pull or push items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Be able to regularly lift items up to 35 pounds from knuckle to shoulder.
  • Be able to regularly lift items up to 25 pounds from shoulder to overhead.
  • Job requires frequent standing, sitting, twisting, and bending.
  • Job requires occasional walking, elevated work, squatting, kneeling, and climbing.
