Qualifications

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and interpret simple graphs.
  • Ability to follow safety rules and operating instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor the machine to detect malfunctions.
  • Stop the machine and report jams or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Inspect containers to ensure proper packaging.
  • Feed product to conveyors and unload packaged product.
  • Replenish packaging supplies (paper, boxes, labels).
  • Maintain clean, neat, and orderly work area.
  • Work overtime and weekends as needed.

Summary

Tends machine that performs one or more packaging functions such as filling, marking, labeling, banding, tying, packing, or wrapping containers by performing the following duties.

  • Starts machine, operate, and observes operation to detect malfunctions of machine.
  • Stops machine and reports malfunction to supervisor. Removes cans/cases jammed or dented.
  • Inspects filled container to ensure that product is packaged according to specifications.
  • Feeds product to conveyors, hoppers, or other feeding devices, and unloads packaged product.
  • Replenishes packaging supplies such as wrapping paper, plastic sheet, boxes, cartons, glue, ink, or labels. Mounts supplies on spindles or places supplies in hopper or other feeding devices.
  • Positions and holds container in machine and depresses pedal, presses button, or moves lever to clean, glue, label, sew, or staple container.
  • Cuts stencils and stencils information on container such as lot number or shipping destination.
  • Make minors adjustment if needed.
  • Immediately notify supervisor of major equipment malfunction.
  • Follow all good manufacturing practices.
  • Meet all productivity and efficiency, standards as outlined by management.
  • Maintain work area clean, neat, and orderly condition.
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed, with or without advance notice.
  • Must be available to work any shift and weekends as necessary.
  • Immediately report all food safety and food quality problems to supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Less than high school education; or up to one-month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
