Job summary

Pretium Packaging is seeking a Technician Operator for our Hazleton, PA facility. You will start up and run multiple packaging machines, monitor set points, perform minor maintenance, and ensure proper materials are used on the line.

You will conduct quality inspections, document issues, and maintain a clean, safe work area. 1–3 years of packaging/plastics machine experience and HS diploma with basic mechanical training are preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school education required plus mechanical training on packaging equipment.
  • 1–3 years of experience operating packaging/plastics machinery.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math; basic CNC awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Start up production machines and verify set points.
  • Operate extrusion and injection molding and labeling equipment.
  • Clean filters, perform minor maintenance, purge machines.
  • Inspect quality samples during running.
  • Record production data and document issues.

Job description

  • Start up production machines; periodically check to insure machine set points are accurate.
  • Ensure proper operation of machines; clean filters, perform minor maintenance, and monitor while purging.
  • Insure proper sleeves, boxes, labels and materials are used for the line running (verify by part numbers).
  • Conduct quality inspections while line is running; check samples for compliance to specifications.
  • Respond to problems on the line making proper adjustments to machines.
  • Notify supervisor when repairs and maintenance are required.
  • Re-start machines after maintenance is completed.
  • Prepare paperwork/documentation on problems, cause and solutions.
  • Record production and/or quality data (manual/data collector). Close out production run.
  • Keep area clean and free of debris, enforce all safety and housekeeping policies and practices
  • Assist with training other Technician Operators on various aspects of the job
  • Provide relief for breaks and lunches
  • Perform other related duties and special projects.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education

Requires a high school education or equivalent plus mechanical training/aptitude and technical training on packaging, plastics and printing equipment.

Experience

Requires a minimum of 1 to 3 years experience operating machines used in the packaging/plastics industry in order to gain sufficient skill to perform the requirements of the position.

  • Language: Perform reading, writing and speaking at a basic level.
  • Mathematical: Competent in practical application of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and trigonometry; add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure; calculate fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion, variables and formulas.
  • Reasoning: Ability to apply rational principles to solve practical problems and deal with several concrete variables in standardized situations and to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Computer skills at a basic to intermediate level, including use of CNC machines.

Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • Standing, walking, bending, lifting, moving, talking, hearing, pushing, carrying, reaching, and grasping,
  • Flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention along with manual coordination; or part time concentrated attention and coordination.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more, the ability to bring objects into sharp focus, to judge distance and space relationships and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Light to medium work – exert up to 50 pounds of force continuously and up to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Work Conditions

Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

Physical conditions include proximity to moving mechanical parts and exposure to noise, dust, high temperatures, heat from equipment, hot water, hot plastic, and heater bands to melt plastic.

Protective clothing that may be required includes: hair net, safety glasses, earplugs, and gloves.
