Job summary

Pretium Packaging, L.L.C. in Hazle Village, PA, seeks a Technician Operator to start up and monitor packaging lines, perform minor maintenance, and ensure correct materials and labeling for runs.

You will conduct on-line quality checks, adjust machines, document issues, and maintain safety and housekeeping standards. Responsibilities include recording data, assisting with training, providing break relief, and performing related tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school education or equivalent plus mechanical training/aptitude and technical training on packaging, plastics and printing equipment.
  • Requires 1–3 years of experience operating machines used in the packaging/plastics industry.
  • Basic reading, writing and speaking skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Start up production machines and monitor set points for accuracy.
  • Ensure proper operation, clean filters, perform minor maintenance and purge as needed.
  • Verify sleeves, boxes, labels and materials by part numbers on the line.
  • Conduct quality inspections while running and sample to specs.
  • Respond to line problems with proper machine adjustments.
  • Notify supervisor when repairs or maintenance are required.
  • Restart machines after maintenance and document issues and solutions.
  • Record production and quality data and close out each run.
  • Keep work area clean and enforce safety procedures; assist training of others.
  • Provide relief for breaks and lunches and perform related duties.

Job description

  • Start up production machines; periodically check to insure machine set points are accurate.
  • Ensure proper operation of machines; clean filters, perform minor maintenance, and monitor while purging.
  • Insure proper sleeves, boxes, labels and materials are used for the line running (verify by part numbers).
  • Conduct quality inspections while line is running; check samples for compliance to specifications.
  • Respond to problems on the line making proper adjustments to machines.
  • Notify supervisor when repairs and maintenance are required.
  • Re-start machines after maintenance is completed.
  • Prepare paperwork/documentation on problems, cause and solutions.
  • Record production and/or quality data (manual/data collector). Close out production run.
  • Keep area clean and free of debris, enforce all safety and housekeeping policies and practices
  • Assist with training other Technician Operators on various aspects of the job
  • Provide relief for breaks and lunches
  • Perform other related duties and special projects.

Marginal Functions:

  • May make boxes, pack and/or test various products.
  • May attach labels to products.
POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Requires a high school education or equivalent plus mechanical training/aptitude and technical training on packaging, plastics and printing equipment.

Experience: Requires a minimum of 1 to 3 years experience operating machines used in the packaging/plastics industry in order to gain sufficient skill to perform the requirements of the position.

  • Language: Perform reading, writing and speaking at a basic level.
  • Mathematical: Competent in practical application of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and trigonometry; add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure; calculate fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion, variables and formulas.
  • Reasoning: Ability to apply rational principles to solve practical problems and deal with several concrete variables in standardized situations and to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Computer skills at a basic to intermediate level, including use of CNC machines.

Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software and Work Aids, which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

Mechanics tools, calipers, gauges, weight scales, extrusion blow mold machine, extrusion machine, injection mold machine, injection blow mold machine, lining machine, label machine, pad printer, silk-screen.

Physical/Visual Activities or Demands: Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • Standing, walking, bending, lifting, moving, talking, hearing, pushing, carrying, reaching, and grasping,
  • Flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention along with manual coordination; or part time concentrated attention and coordination.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more, the ability to bring objects into sharp focus, to judge distance and space relationships and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Light to medium work - exert up to 50 pounds of force continuously and up to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Work Conditions: Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

Physical conditions include proximity to moving mechanical parts and exposure to noise, dust, high temperatures, heat from equipment, hot water, hot plastic, and heater bands to melt plastic.

Protective clothing that may be required includes: hair net, safety glasses, earplugs, and gloves.
