Job summary

Metals USA is seeking a Machine Operator for the Springfield, OH location. The candidate will set up materials, inspect dimensions, operate an overhead crane and forklift, and ensure packaging and quality standards are met. Growth opportunities exist in a large metals processing company.

The role requires basic math, measuring skills, CAD reading, and adherence to safety procedures. Teamwork and reliability are essential in this manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• High School/Technical School graduate with basic English reading & writing comprehension.
• Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions.
• Basic measuring skills to read English & Metric systems and a tape measure, caliper or micrometer.
• Experience operating an overhead crane, forklift, hand tools and common shop machinery.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Ability to understand and use Safety Rules and Procedures as well as OSHA standards and regulations.
• Must exercise a reasonable degree of judgment and follow company policies.
• Must understand customers packaging requirements and assess product quality.
• Work as a Team member.

Responsibilities

• Sets up and aligns specified material or fixtures in machine bed using gauges, templates, shims, or hand tools.
• Chooses correct material for the job according to work order. Inspects plates for thickness, length, width, heat number, grade specification and color code.
• Coordinates and executes material handling to be processed including operation of overhead crane.
• Reviews CAD drawings, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications.
• Performs quality control inspections on finished product; for ISO-certification.
• Stacks, bands, and palletizes finished products for shipment.
• Performs the duties of a warehouse worker to include operating a forklift & overhead crane.
