Job summary

HM Dunn AeroSystems, Inc. is seeking an experienced machine operator to setup and operate metal-forming equipment in our Wichita area facility. You will follow work orders and blueprints to bend, form, notch, punch, or straighten components to tight tolerances.

You will also read gauges and calipers, verify dimensions, and maintain focus on quality and safety. The role requires at least two years of related experience and a strong eye for detail in a fast-paced aerospace environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a machine operator or similar.
  • Must read and interpret detail part and assembly blueprints.
  • Able to apply basic math including decimals and fractions.
  • Able to communicate verbally with management and peers.
  • Ability to use gauges, calipers and other measuring tools safely.
  • Identify proper materials per specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality.
  • Dependable and able to follow instructions and take initiative.
  • Prioritize work, plan effectively, and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Sets stops on machine bed, changes dies, and adjusts components for multiple passes.
  • Operates power press, power brake, or similar equipment to bend, form, notch, stretch, punch or straighten metals.
  • Positions dies using hoist, gauges, and hand tools.
  • Installs and secures gears, dies to machine bed using gauges.
  • Measures work pieces and verifies dimensions using micrometers and scales.

Job Summary

Sets up and operates powered machinery to bend, form, stretch, notch, punch, or straighten metals and structural shapes as specified by work orders, blueprints, drawings, or layouts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Sets stops on machine bed, changes dies, and adjusts components such as ram or power press, when making multiple or successive passes.
  • Operates power press, power brake, foot-powered press, hydraulic press, batwing, or like machinery to bend, form, notch, stretch, punch or straighten metals.
  • Selects and positions flat, block, radius, or special purposes die sets into ram and bed of machine, using hoist, crane, measuring instruments, and hand tools.
  • Installs, aligns, and secures gears, holing fixtures, dies to machine bed, using gauges, and/or templates, and hand tools.
  • Measures work piece and verifies dimensions and weight, using micrometer, template, straightedge, and scale.
NON ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Inspects work pieces for defects.
  • Lifts, positions, and secures work pieces between dies of machine using crane.
  • Lubricates work pieces with oil.
  • Grinds out burrs and sharp edges, using portable grinder, speed lathe and polishing jack.
  • Hand forms, cuts, or finishes work pieces using proper tools.
Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Minimum 2 years previous experience as a machine operator or related.
  • Must be able to accurately read detail part and assembly blueprints.
  • Ability to apply basic math, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in one-on-one situations with management and co-workers; listen to others without interrupting and get clarification when needed.
  • Ability to safely and properly use gauges, calipers, and other tools and equipment.
  • Ability to identify proper materials and supplies according to specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Exhibits dependability, including following instructions; responding to supervisors direction; and taking responsibility for own actions.
  • Ability to take initiative, including asking for and offering help when needed; performs work independently without being prompted.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities; use time efficiently; and work within deadlines.
