Job Summary
The Machine Operator is responsible for setting up and operating machines that perform various manufacturing functions, such as assembling, labeling, banding, tying, packing, or wrapping. This role involves line assembly operations to mass-produce products and ensure safe, efficient operation within the production environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up, start, and monitor machinery to detect malfunctions or irregularities.
- Verify that products meet required specifications and quality standards.
- Perform minor machine adjustments and remove defective workpieces or scrap as needed.
- Assemble and package products, place completed orders on pallets, and prepare them for shipping.
- Work at multiple stations as production needs require.
- Load, stack, and transport inventory between departments.
- Inspect items for conformity to standards and replenish packaging materials (e.g., boxes, cartons, wrapping supplies).
- Maintain clean work areas and perform general housekeeping duties.
- Assist in training new employees on machinery and processes.
- Support continuous improvement efforts and adapt to process changes.
- Submit documentation and relevant data to administrative or accounting personnel as needed.
- Maintain production pace with team and perform basic quality inspections.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of one year of related experience or training.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.
Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Capable of writing basic reports and correspondence.
Mathematical Skills:
- Proficient in basic math operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability:
- Apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed but straightforward written, oral, or diagram instructions.
- Demonstrate attention to detail and multitasking capabilities.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand for extended periods, walk, sit, bend, stoop, squat, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions.
- Frequently use hands and arms to handle tools and materials.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 75 lbs.
- Required vision abilities: close, distance, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must perform basic visual quality checks on products.
Work Environment
- The work setting is a production warehouse with moderate noise levels.
- May occasionally work near moving mechanical parts and equipment.
- Must be able to work in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and humidity.
