Job summary

Quanex in Owatonna, Minnesota seeks a Machine Operator on 2nd shift to set up and operate gear fabrication machinery, including cutting, grinding, and heat treatment processes. The role emphasizes quality control and productivity in a team environment.

Qualifications

• Above average mechanical aptitude and skill using measuring devices and hand tools.
• Ability to read shop orders and related documents.
• Fluency in English, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Perform required machine setups per specifications, including tool changes and fixtures.
• Use gauges, calipers and other tools to check parts against blueprints.
• Make machine adjustments and tool changes to maintain quality.
• Keep work area and machines clean; apply lubricants and coolants as required.
• Notify Lead of machine malfunctions and assist with basic repairs.

Job description

Quanex is looking for a Machine Operator - 2nd shift to join our team located in Owatonna, Minnesota.

In this position you will be responsible for the set up and operation of various machinery including cutting, grinding, and heat treatment related to the fabrication of a variety of gears, while ensuring product meets established standards of quality and productivity.

Standard working hours for 2nd shift are Monday to Thursday 3:30pm - 2am.

What Success Looks Like:

• Perform required machine setups in accordance with machine and product specifications, involving changing tools, cutters, fixtures.
• Use a variety of measurement tools like gauges, calipers, and others to check parts and ensure they conform to quality and engineering blueprints and specifications.
• Make machine adjustments and tool changes as necessary to correct or maintain product quality.
• Keep clean and organized work area, and machinery ensuring proper lubricants and coolants are adequately applied to machines.
• Make minor machine repairs and notify Lead of machine malfunctions.
• Order parts and bench stock as required.

What You Bring:

• Problem solving and decision making skills to determine appropriate setup for product being manufactured.
• Experience in quality assurance to determine if parts meet quality standards.
• Strong interpersonal skills as this role interacts with other machine operators, department Lead, Inspection personnel, Material Handlers and Tool and Die Maintenance personnel.
• Above average mechanical aptitude, skill using measuring devices and hand tools.
• Ability to read shop orders and all associated documents.
• Fluency in the English language, both written and spoken, is required.

The hourly rate for this position is $24.00 per hour, plus $1.00 per hour for shift differential.
