Location Description

Our plant, located in Lansing, IL, pasteurizes raw eggs to remove harmful bacteria for a more safe product to the foodservice industry.


Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities related to Food Safety & Quality are followed uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability. Ensures regulatory compliance.

This position is responsible for assisting the shift supervisor in managing the Packaging/Pelbo Department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in training processing and production personnel in the assigned department and update training for existing personnel when equipment changes or new procedures are implemented.
  • Help provide a safe work environment for all personnel and ensure that all production complies with food safety standards established by Michael Foods, Inc.
  • Work with supervisors to maintain sanitation standards of the facility.
  • Assume personal responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone and adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Give work direction to packaging operators and utility personnel to organize their time during setup, changeovers, and run time.
  • Coordinate with processors on system readiness, product types, and line sterilization to meet production requirements.
  • Maintain effective working relationships within the department and with other areas.
  • Verify that all operator downtime, temperature charts, and documentation are accurate and complete before submission to the shift supervisor.
  • Communicate and work closely with the Pasteurizer and Packaging leads to ensure efficient product flow.
  • Manage the incoming flow of pasteurized eggs and maintain first in/first out inventory.
  • Communicate with co-workers at shift change to ensure accurate information transfer regarding production and scheduling.
  • Adhere to quality work practices, follow GMPs, and maintain sanitary conditions.
  • Operate the Pelbo machine according to supervisor direction.
  • Monitor mechanical loading of individual flats onto the conveyor and ensure the machine does not jam.
  • Oversee the procedure ensuring there are no jams from entry to exit of the flat.
  • Clean/sanitize machines as needed.
  • Follow all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) requirements and safety procedures.
  • Follow all GMP, HACCP, SOP, and SSOP guidelines and keep records updated.
  • Report and fill out work orders on maintenance issues related to productivity, food safety, quality, and human safety.
  • Encourage suggestions from employees to improve productivity, quality, and cost control.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
  • Be responsible for Food Safety and Food Quality of MFI products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and reach while lifting stacks of empty flats.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work indoors in a wet and humid environment and stand on hard surfaces.
  • Ability to travel stairs.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good hand/eye coordination.
  • Basic mechanical abilities.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Safety regulations and wear proper PPE.
  • Ability to complete Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Certification.
  • Ability to operate specific equipment or tools.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors, or employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving one concrete variable in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Specific skills and abilities required that are not included in other sections:

* Ability to operate specific equipment or tools.

* Skill in working with computers and experience with spreadsheet and word-processing software.

* Familiarity with special terminology such as legal, medical, or scientific terms.

* Fluency in a language other than English.

The pay range for this position is $17.00 to $20.00 per hour.
