Job summary

Royal Cup, Inc. is seeking a Machine Operator 1 for the 1st shift in Birmingham, AL. You will support packaging operations, learn to run all packaging equipment, and ensure GMP and food safety standards are met.

The role requires basic math, reading and writing skills, and a solid attendance record. Benefits include health insurance, 401(k), tuition reimbursement, and paid holidays as part of our comprehensive program.

Qualifications

  • Must maintain a good attendance record per company policy.
  • Must have basic reasoning abilities, to include: applying common sense in carrying out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability, beyond basic skill performance levels with Reading, Writing, Math & Computer Functions, to include: reading, writing and interpreting basic correspondence, including daily production line sheets, operator check off sheets, machine operating instructions, safety instructions and training materials.
  • Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations: add, subtract and multiply using units of American currency and weight measurement; basic inputs into computer via keyboard and bar code scans into computer system.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to operate all packaging equipment on the production floor.
  • Adhere to GMPs, quality and food safety requirements.
  • Identify quality issues and resolve by adjusting processes and following up as needed.
  • Set up labels and film registration and ensure proper package appearance.
  • Perform quality checks during runs, ensuring weights, seals, and appearance meet standards.
  • Follow all company policies and perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule: Monday - Friday: 6AM - 2:30PM Pay Rate:$17.60

SUMMARY:

The Machine Operator 1 reports to the Packaging Manager and is responsible for performing a variety of tasks associated with our processing and packaging process for coffee and tea

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • None

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Willing to learn how to operate all packaging equipment on the production floor
  • Mindful of and adheres to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), quality and food safety requirements
  • Always be alert, mindful and successfully identify when the following quality control measures are needed and follow through as required to resolve by completing the following but not limited to:
    • Recognize when there is a heat problem and adjust heat as needed
    • Put tape on the tape machine and adjust as needed for different products
    • Put case labels in the computer and thread the label through the label maker
    • Change the case count
    • Setup film registration as needed and adjust for package appearance
    • Enter pack print info into pack printer, thread pack printer, and adjust pack printer on pack for proper alignment
    • Thread valves through valve applier, adjust valve on packs as needed for package appearance
    • Perform quality checks during the run, weights, seals, and appearance of package
    • Ensure all bottles are presentable and sealed tightly
    • Ensure all labels are as straight as possible when applying to cases
    • Ensure all pallets are stacked as straight as possible
  • Strict adherence to all company policies
  • All other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The ability to maintain a good attendance record per company policy
  • Must have basic reasoning abilities, to include:
    • Applying common sense in carrying out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
    • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability, beyond basic skill performance levels with Reading, Writing, Mathematical & Computer Functions, to include:
    • Ability to read, write and interpret basic correspondence, including daily production line sheets, operator check off sheets, machine operating instructions, safety instructions and any training materials (including safety instructions for forklifts and hand jacks)
    • Ability to understand the data line sheet system and fill out all appropriate paperwork
    • Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations: add, subtract and multiply using units of American currency and weight measurement, volume, and distance
    • Basic inputs into computer via keyboard and bar code scans into computer system
  • The ability to successfully complete the pre-employment process

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma (or an equivalent such as a GED)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to safely climb up and down stairs and stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to use hand tools and fingering/handling to operate buttons/levers of equipment to perform quality checks during the run, weights, seals, and appearance of package by squeezing and physically handling packs
  • Ability to lift up to 35lbs and carry 25lbs
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, squat and other movements as needed to stack product and to clean/maintain equipment
  • Ability to balance and reach up and forward up to 48’’ and overhead up to 84’’ to access equipment, machinery, or product
  • Must be at least hand jack certified or willing to train and acquire proper certification to prove safe operation. Any forklift certification (Standup, Reach, sit down) is a plus
  • Ability to work within the work environment characteristics experienced while performing the essential functions for this job.
    • Frequently working near production machinery and occasionally near hand jacks or forklifts
    • Frequently working in an environment with variable temperatures
